Dirty Harry
I have never shot on a proper shoot before but I thought you would have more birds than that. How many birds did you put down for that return? I am lucky in that my land borders a large estate who put loads of birds down and a syndicate on the other side. I had 8 pheasant, 1 rabbit and a pigeon the other morning rough shooting on my own. Harry

In my syndicate we average about 60 per day through the season. Some days may be as low as 30 between 7 guns. Is that a proper shoot? I also have a few days on 2 other shoots, both will give bags between 150 to 200 for 8 guns, funny enough I know which I prefer. On the first we put down about 1,000 birds, on the later they put down 1,000's but shoot over 1,000's of acres. Looking at the pictures above I can guarantee those birds were fast, high and hard. Fantastic looking shooting country. Jerry

pestbry
DH birds coming off that fell are totally different to walking up birds out of hedge rows, i suppose if millomite walked up those fells they would get riple the birds but not good quality sporting birds. Rough shooting is good i know its all part of game shooting Bry
Holland&Holland
Quote " Why are numbers important? We had an excellent time, enough said" You are right ! Very nice pictures, looks like you had a good time. Wish i had some of these days. Lucky man. Been on all different types of shoot and i can safely say that its the total experience that is important to me, not the size of the bag or trophy. Live, value and enjoy nature as it comes by. H&H p.s. keep these pretty pictures coming.
pin
Some stunning country there up your way, some happy faces guns and beaters, who cares what the bag was. I bet there are some testing birds off that fell drive

Dirty Harry
Millomite, Please don't think I was having a go at you. I was not and am sorry if it came accross that way. When I say proper shoot I mean an organised shoot where birds are put down and you have beaters. I was surprised by the numbers you had as I just assumed the numbers would be higher on that type of shoot. Is the shoot run by yourselves or do you pay to shoot there? I agree the land does look cracking and looks like you all enjoyed it. I also agree that numbers are not everything. Somedays I don't hit a thing and have a really good time and one really good shot can make my day. Harry
