pixie
Went out last eve and waited where I missed a fox a few days ago. Tried a few calls , nothing, then a bit later a fox appeared in a far corner of an adjoining field next to a wood. Called again and it disappeared into the woods. Couple of minutes later it reappeared with another. Called again and the other one came towards me, stopped, so another call. This got it bounding towards me, eventually it stopped about 50yds away and the .17hmr got in the boiler room, straight down. On inspection a Dog with strange colouring. Also got 5 rabbits . . al4x
you do get some with the darker colourings in some areas, we get the odd one from time to time.
cos.mos
Not a bad size - colouring similar to the the dog foxes I've shot these last couple of days - that classic red colour seems to be the winter attire, though someone is bound to correct me. c ya soon cos.mos
pavman
foxes have short black hair at birth which changes as they get older, its just we dont see them that young and for some reason a few retain more black or they can remain almost all black, I am chasing a black vixen just now.... 4 years and never a shot! and I have seen 4 adults that appear fully black, pic below shows a little fella already changing Edited July 18, 2013 by pavman

pixie
The original best fox call about £10 from memory. Been successful quite a few times but can also use back of hand.
bicykillgaz
you do get some with the darker colourings in some areas, we get the odd one from time to time. First fox I ever shot was a young is cub and it was almost black, I've never seen one since but have spoken to other people who've seen/shot them so can't be that uncommon. Lovely looking and was half tempted to leave it but it was on route to chicken shed at the time so had no choice, plus my dad would of disowned me if I hadn't! channa
That cub in the photo is around 4 week old... They are normally red by 8 week old,but not always. Colours range from black to white and every mix in between for vulpes vulpes. ATB Tim

Vince Green
The urban foxes round here are just like the one in the picture, some are nearly black, others patchy but it appears mostly on the topside.
