eddiemac
hello to all, i'm new to this forum so i'de like to introduce myself. my name is eddie i live in coventry and am an airgunner. i do a bit of pheasant beating at the weekend and one of the farmers has asked me to help out with a serious crow problem he has got in one of his fields where his sheep graze.(i dont think he's asked the shotgunners because of the noise they make as it would alarm his livestock) anyway i have gone up and had a look around, the field has got a small wood on one of its sides so i'm planning on making a hide in the edge of the woods looking into the field, i have got a week off work at xmas so plenty of time to plan ahead. i havent done decoying on a serious degree before so any tips are most welcome. if i show good results this could lead to more shooting permission so i'm hoping to make a good impression, also i dont want the shotties taking the mick. i use hw100's in .177 and .22 cals and i have just forked out on crow and large owl deaks. i also bought a digital crow call so if anyone has done anything similar to what i am trying to do any advice would be most welcome! thanks in advance eddie

P03
Try putting out a dead rabbit...just make sure the crows can see the eyes and make sure they don't see you go into the hide. Best of luck

pin
Not sure you can use an electronic caller for any birds in the uk, you can on fox. Mind, perfectly ok for a bit of crow watching

njc110381
The rabbit tip is a good one. Lay it on its back with its head to one side, that way they can pick up the belly fur at a long range. Slit it open and spill its guts too, they love it. You'd have more luck with this method than an owl decoy, they don't hang round for long when mobbing things. When eating however, they are a good still target for the rifle
fulltimeshooter
I have also had good success with dead pigeons on their back and plucking a few feathers out of them and leaving them on the floor with a few decoy's, and chickens eggs layed on the floor with grass around em to make it look like a nest with one cracked open is a good way to decoy also! JUST KEEP YOURSELF HIDDEN! All the best FullTimeShooter.
deadeye ive
Welcome Eddie Electronic calls can't be used to attract flying vermin as in this case unless your shooting them in flight ...........I could be wrong ............Use a manuel crow call instead and be on the safe side . Your about there anyway with your approach and I like the Nest and broken egg approach ...........Your hide needs to be top drawer though
eddiemac
thanks for all the replies and advice, i will definately try the dead rabbit and chicken eggs approach when the crows get used to the owl. as i said i have got the whole week off work to tackle this problem and a good result is needed so all these options i will try. i have ordered a camo tent off e.bay which i plan to set up on the edge of the woods, screened with branches and netting, got to keep dry and comfy if i'm going to spend a lot of time there. i am hoping the crow call will get thier attention so that they spot the owl. with a few crow deeks up in the trees i'm hoping they will be interested. obviously when they get wise it will be time to move to another spot and maybe this is the time to use the dead rabbit ? i will let you know what happens when i get started. roll on christmas!! cheers eddie

henry d
i am hoping the crow call will get thier attention so that they spotthe owl. I`m hoping that no twitchers are about whilst you flout the law and bring us all into disrepute. Why do you feel you need all the bells gongs and whistles when fieldcraft will work much better?
