Well !! Hundreds of Pigeons in the area of my whirleygig and 20 decoy's, on 140 acres of Rape stubble, showing very little interest for most of the time, then all of the sudden one comes straight in ??.

Thursday last week had 6 5 hours

Saturday 7 5 hours

This week:

Monday 7 6 hours

Tuesday 25 6 hours

Today was better they did come to have a look and i was able to get some nice shooting from it.

Rope bangers at the ready for Thursday or Friday depending on the weather, should keep them on the move.

Same thing for me, last three outings the birds are flying past as if they have an invite to a banquet in the next valley, nothing will bring them in, I believe that there is just too much food around for them, every farm has just cut rape, barley or wheat, stubble fields as far as you can see, just have to persevere with flight lines or decoy where there are a few birds and hope for the best until it gets colder and they start to bunch up, as soon as the food supply has been used up they will start looking, hopefully in my direction, till then look out crows, ducks, pheasants, geese and partridge ( in season of course) your on the hit list till I get a few more pigeons to shoot at. :good::good:

Take away all the electrical gadgets.

I swear by flappers and magnets, but have found on the rape stubble they have been reluctant to decoy when I have any of the gadgets out.

I've been using the FUD's on their own and the birds decoy really well.

Very different to last year when they were decoying really well to the magnet and the flapper.

This,

I'm no expert when it comes to decoying and far from being one,

but for me birds are only decoying to 4 fuds in a random pattern. No interest in shells, floaters, flappers or bouncers. However bags are proving small but very enjoyable.

we have all been there done it got the tee shirt........i think we expect too much at this time of year.....on the flatlands and the big wide open spaces of cambs and lincs etc i think the birds act differently.....but where i live in small fields and wooded areas it is different.........its more of a waiting and watching game to see what the birds are up to...

Dear Sir,

It is unfortunate, that the pigeons your way of the country, aren't decoying well, it as happened to me many time, for one reason or another, by saying you haven't managed to bag many, does this imply, that you haven't had the chance to train your eye for this coming shooting season???? .....Finally!!!!, this year I might and I repeat...I might get near your shooting standard :good::good::good:

For your information dear sirs, the gentleman in question here, his one of the best, gentleman mannered and sporting person I have met in many days shooting.

Mark you are too kind !! :):):):), the eye is in 5 out of 7 yesterday and two were double shots... Same again, hundreds of pigeons. Worked flight lines, but, they would not decoy. Having said that, 5 came straight in to the decoys out of many hundreds that flew past, and were bagged. My brother in law was also out in another area on the shoot and he managed 5 also, same problem. A lot of food about though , will keep on trying. Anyway a couple of moons to go aye Mark !! looking forward to it. :good:

I find that plastic bags or other material on sticks are more effective than rope bangers when trying to discourage pigeons from landing in another field or indeed at the other end of the same field in which you are shooting. Bangers bang! That may be obvious but they do scare birds away rather than discourage birds from using other areas as 'bagging off' does.
