Grow up,it is like wearing your jeans to the pub,but dressing up for an invite to the Queens garden party.A bit of tradition does no one any harm and reminds you that standards are sometimes to be kept. Wear your combats when you are out rough shooting and use your semi auto,but if you are going to spend a bit of money for a day out ,make an occasion of it dress up have a laugh with like minded people and enjoy the sport with an old sxs(or new fangled ou) What next hippys with long hair on shoots,god forbid Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Some very good replies on here defending our pheasant shooting traditions. But why would you expect others to accept you on their shoot, using a Gun that is simply not allowed in their rules? A SxS can be a lot more fun to master than a semi! Is CHEAPER if you shop about! And personally leaves a bigger smile on your face, when you walk away with a few braces. I am not having a go at Either of you! A semi Auto has it's place, perhaps in a hide on Crows and Pigeons. Or perhaps on Rabbit or a Fox drive. Even Fowling, But I know of NO game shoot that allows a Semi Auto for Pheasant, grouse, Partridge etc. Game Shooting is not simply popping out to bag a few for the table It's following a tradition "I would go as far as saying CELEBRATING a Tradition!" Taking part in a game shoot is the closest thing you will get to living history! A SxS is as quinticentially important as the Tweeds and Cheese and Port imho Once game shoots accept Semi Auto's, thats the end of the the whole tradition. For the sake of £100 for a SxS, I think it's worth the investment! You can have hours of fun at the Clay grounds getting your eye in. A buzz when you clatter your first left and.right on the Pigeons. And when your on a Game shoot with it broken over your arm you will look like part of the tradition. Yes I have a SxS. I am proud of that. Have I hit anything with it? Yes! The cabinet door! That is quite some statement there Danny, I can see that you are passionate about your shooting and your camo semi auto. However I would say that once you have been shooting for a bit longer and hopefully you will get an invite to an organised shoot you might change your attitude. Your semi has its place in many different kinds of shooting and you should enjoy using it, but taking part in an organised shoot using a traditional s x s or over and under will give you just as much pleasure if not more. I find it quite sad that you feel the need to express your self in the way you have. Using ******* to cross out what you obviously mean to say is just bringing yourself down and is impressing no one. As such, much as at some clay grounds, there will be those wanting to look disdainfully down their nose at the person who carries out such a travesty! I should have made my post more comprehensive reading it retrospectively. I should add that there is nothing wrong with tradition and indeed I agree that for some occasions it's nice to make a little more of an effort. I do object though to those idiots at the clay grounds who make disparaging comments about guys using camo'd semi autos. Just as the game shooting is starting, so is the fowling. What is the difference between a game shooter practicing on the clays with his SxS and the 'fowler practicing with his gun of choice. As for the twit with three in the tube, gun safety is gun safety and he could just as easily have loaded outside the cage to save time. Can't wait to try it out but, shift work means I won't be able to get on clays for a while. Ill also miss the first pheasant syndicate shoot. It's a perfect field gun and has it's place. But to take one on a game shoot - well I wouldn't dream of it. It's just not done and as posh as I'm not, I give respect to tradition where it's due. Now my first shotgun was a winchester sx3 composite semi (black however rather than camo, bit too much duck dynasty for me) and absolutely love it and would take it out on the pigeons or clays but even though I wouldn't expect anyone to turn there nose up at me I would never take it out on a pheasant shoot because as most say its tradition and tradition shouldn't be broken. I have made loads of mistakes since shooting and hunting (non life threatening) and have luckily had older boys to show me the ropes and show me along the ways. Last year I was at a shoot at my family friends farm and one of the old boys who is well know and liked in the circles turned up with a benneli and everyone laughed and called him Rambo for the day, he wasn't stoned to death. Although it was the only occasion I have seen a semi auto at a posh shoot. But someone only needs to point this fella in the correct direction. I have a under and over too. Working the first too weekends in October when the shoot days fall. I don't think he needs pointing in the right direction as firstly he never said he was using the semi for pheasants he simply said he is going to miss the first shoot and that he has an O/U aswell. It's only because of people making comments and people assuming he intended to use it on the pheasants that this debate has popped up.
