welsh1
I go for a hike up the Preseli mountains with my Wife and dog,and we climb to our first trig point and sit on the cairn on the top for a breather, then notice some lazy inbred good for nothing has had a beer and instead of taking their bottle with them has smashed it between the rocks. The dog missed having his paw slashed open by millimetres and we picked up all the glass put it in a dog poo bag and packed it in the rucksack to dispose safely. We walk a few miles and decide to have a brew, get under a nice outcrop out of the sun,and what do we find, banana skins and a couple of chocolate wrappers jammed into a crevice in the rocks,so again we pick them up to dispose. Why do people do it? they are walking on stunning land and decide to leave their junk about,it's not as if it will be hard to carry it down, they carried it up. Moan over, and a nice pic to follow,

TbirdX
This year the Mrs and Me did Snowdon, Scafell Pike and topped it off with an assault on Nevis. On all of them we found cans, wrappers and the other detritus lazy **** leave about. Really no need for it at all, such a shame.

welsh1
Do you take your dump with you? I try not to dump if i can help it If the dog does it on a path or walkway then it's picked up,but if he does it in the middle of an agricultural field it's left. The same as when i am out shooting. station
People litter because they have no respect for others and their surroundings. Unfortunately this is all too common these days and it's a shame. Glad you enjoyed the view - lovely ! ATB.
Uncle Albert
It's strange isn't it, if you were to dump litter in their front garden they would be out like a shot giving you all sort of verbals. When out shooting I try to pick up all empties, 12 bore carts and .22 rimfire cases. Takes a couple of minutes. Leave it as you would want to find it! -Mongrel-
no stigma anymore ????? He's right. There's no stigma attached to littering anymore, or at least not in many people's minds. I too like to leave the land as found and that includes when shooting, all carts, carcasses and litter come off the ground.
ME
A friend from the USA is planning to come to the UK. I have already apologised about the state of the place with litter etc. He said: "Why do they do that ME? Do British people not respect their country?" Hmmm.. tricky one to answer. You are right,i have blocked some yoofs in on a lane when shooting one night,it was 12pm and as i came round the corner they were sitting in their corsa blocking a field entrance throwing maccy d's wrappers out, i asked them to pick them up and got a load of abuse as they drove off,oh how i laughed as they came back up the lane 5 minutes later as it was a dead end with a slipway into the water, both me and my shooting partner were standing there with the truck in the middle of the road, they had the option to pick the litter up and they chose it,wise choice. unapalomablanca
? ? ??? 'Stigma' is another meaning of 'shame'. And what I mean is, people have no shame, as society has stopped judging and condemning anti-social behaviour. I am agreeing with you that littering a beauty spot or even a carp hole is bang out of order. Sha Bu Le
Mrs S and I usually have a trip to Carlisle to see daughter and granddaughter around once a month. On the way back travelling east on the A69 we stop at a layby 2 miles before the start of the dual carriageway. Its a brilliant view and we usually spot some bunnies in the distance. The beer cans, bottles and general litter is disgusting. Worse still when we look over the wall onto the farmers land there is even more. The farmer must pick it up when it gets too much, inevitably its back again next time. Guess what...........there are two wheelie bins fixed to a post at the layby usually almost empty. Like several of you have said "no shame, no pride and not bothered about being stigmatised. " In some cities there is zero tolerance for such people why can't it be the same in the countryside? However policing would be a problem though, mores the pity. Edited September 28, 2013 by Sha Bu Le
Catweazle
I think it stems from people having no sense of community where they live. There is no litter around here over the winter months, I have seen women carefully stubbing out cigarettes on the floor before putting the stub in their handbag ( I actually thought a woman was chalking on the floor the first time I saw it ), but when the tourists come in Summer you can see where they've been on the beach. The litter is an ongoing problem there and has been for many years which is why the bins were put there in the first place but the morons still chuck there **** everwhere but the bins. I still do a bit of shooting there whenever I'm up that way and there is a lot of rabbits. Next time your in the area stop off in Haydon Bridge and go to the chippy as its really good(belongs to my father ).
r1steele
Back to the topic of rubbish. I've noticed recently that quite o lot of people are using dog poop bags to clean there mess up and then leave the bag hanging from a branch or placed on top of a hedge. Nobody likes to see dog **** all over the place but I personally think it would be better left for the elements to get rid of it than sitting up a tree in a plastic bag to last for a very long time. I'm not for one minute condoning leaving your dog mess behind but bagging it up and throwing it up a tree is worse in my book.

The famous poo bag trees,it just shows lazy dog owners, its not hard to carry a bag home if its a walk round the block, and if you are out all day walking etc if you have to pick up carry a plastic bag to put the poo bag in and put it in a side pouch of your day sack/rucksack then dispose when you find a bin.
