Dunkield
Drink less during the week, well lunchtimes realy - sticking to that for 2 days now Get even more excercise, and eat even more healthily - doing that :o (binge eating is OK but doing it all year round isn't a good idea ) Get more shooting permission - haven't got going on that one yet. Do more fishing - ditto For me this year its all health related so I have decided to Stop Smoking, Stop Drinking and take Regular Excersise. Fair play on the quitting smoking Axe - good call :o Have you quite drinking all together or just cutting down a bit? I know you have to be careful when you quit the weed as the pounds can pile on, never smoked myself but I have seen realtives and friends go through it, it is well worth doing though. Axe
Thanks for the encouragment Stuart. I have decided to knock drinking on the head for a month, after which I will have the odd glass of wine or two at the weekend and perhaps the odd lewes trip or bisley get together. :o I am aware of the weight problems that come with quitting smoking. For this and coupled with cutting out the excess of drink i normally consume, I have introduced a change in diet which consists of healthy option eating and a change in routine. So far the weight is pouring off and I am feeling the benefits already. The body is is still trying to get used to the dramatic changes though. :o
SNAKEBITE
Well done Mal! Looks like I'll have to give up smoking as well now then, no-one to ponce a rollie off! It is a challenge to do three things at once and stick to them so good luck with it all. I have no resolutions as such this year but I have a couple of "goals" that I would like to achieve. Small steps that I can build on rather than unachievable quests that are bound to fail!
Dunkield
I agree, 'lifestyle' changes are better than quick fixes, and easier to maintain. I gave up sugar in tea about a year or so ago, and don't miss it at all, they reckon if you drink 6-8 cups a day that is the same as a stone over a year As for the fags, come July a lot of people will be cutting down if not quitting altogether. sandersj89
I gave up smoking just over 3 years ago and have not looked back. It was not too bad as I stopped cigarettes a few years before that and only smoked small cigars, about 5 or 6 a day. I simply went cold turkey and after a few months I was completly free of any cravings, bets thing I nhave done for a long time. Being fairly active weight gain was not a problem but the joy of no tickling cough is great! Hang in there! Jerry

wickedandlazee
I am going dry for 3 months ( don't laugh ) and also altering my diet to make it more healthy. Same reasons need to lose a couple of stone since , as my quack put it, my liver is under a bit of strain. Have managed it a few times in the past - for 18 months at one time but always end up slipping back into old habits. Think i need to stick at it this time as i am the big 4 O this year
miffy
Mine is to use the shotgun more than i have done in the last year or so and to get out lamping more. I've already packed up smoking a few years ago and my body is a temple so i don't eat unhealthy food Good luck with any new years resolutions that you have made

SNAKEBITE
Can being a more racist ready for the next insurgence of imigrants and pan crackers be classed as a new years resolution ? jonno I think you can file that under "Lifestyle" changes. Don't be racist, just be honest. Racism is wrong, however practicality isn't. It is a thin line. Anyway back on topic ................... Markio
well another day... without a cig..... its tough... I am keeping myself busy.... but find it hard to sleep at night... anyone else quitting smoking? its a tough time and place... they say by day 3 cravings should go a bit.... not in my case! I will over come this! and this thread is now a support group... so its been taken over!!!!! LOL I gave up last Feb when we were trying for our baby. Not had a ciggie (or roll up to precise) since. The first day i had dinner with loads of wine (smoking and drinking is nice!), i left my tobacco in the coffee table for the next month or so in front of me (logic being that not having access to something make me what it more!) one is worse . At every point i fancied a fag i just told myself i wouldn't have one for the next hour, then at the next craving i did the same. I made it harder for myself with drinking and leaving tobaco in the house so prove that i would get over the worse. Don't set yourself a target of not smoking for the whole day, do it hour by hour. Day by day is something you can do weeks or months later. I used the second strongest patches for 2 weeks, then for one week used the weakest ones. The after that i used nothing and went ape**** for 2 days , so thought i'd try the gum, did that for another 3 weeks or so when i got a craving. The worse part for me was not after meals or during a drink, but during really realxing moments outside, i just wanted (and to a point still do) a ciggie to enjoy the moment with. I cough less but other than that don't feel much better physically. All i hope is that i've given myself a few more years on this planet with my daughter, maybe with that in mind that is why i was able to give up. Good luck mate.
Guest jonrms
Cheers Mark! I am only doing this for my son.... so my reason is clear.. the choice and the reality of getting by day to day is still very hard. Apart from what you described... ie living longer etc.. for my child... I have no other reasons to give up... I will succeed and will be a stronger person out of this.... Cigerettes are a major addiction...and have been described like quitting herion. Anyway Well done Mark for quitting!!!! keep it up... I will post a day by day result of my pain... etc.. lol
Markio
Cigerettes are a major addiction...and have been described like quitting herion. Yeah i'd heard that too, to be honest i think that discourages a lot of people from trying to quit. Having given up smoking i very much doubt that is is harder than kicking herion! I reckon that was made up by people who couldn't kicks ciggies to make themselves feel better. Keep at it, you'll get there. It's hard work at times but it's not all that bad. al4x
http://whyquit.com/whyquit/LinksAAddictionPrint.html for those giving up smoking have a read of this. My girlfriend has done 2 months now and that is after nearly 20 years of smoking heavily and having tried everything in the book to give up. She just got her mind in the right frame and did it no help and hasn't smoked since. the main problem is weight gain and believe me she's getting pretty ****** off about that side of it! Axe
I'm now on day 5 of my 'I dont smoke' campaign and I must say, the cravings are fading fast. The only time I really suffer is when my mind is unoccupied, mostly in the evenings. Im sure its nowhere over yet but I am very happy that I have managed thus far. I also think that it depends on your mind set, as I am feeling very determined this time round. Whilst the wife is using NRT I have decided that its better to go without 'cold turkey' as it were. I dont want to have to ween my way of the nicotine months down the line and risk smoking again. One thing that has helped me is this. Every time I crave a cigarette, I tell myself how annoyed I will feel tomorrow, that instead of being the next day, its day 1 again. Works for me so far.
Gordon R
New Year's resolution is to lose wieght. I was a fit 16 stone, but went up to 17 1/2. Went to gym to get fit and ended up 19 stone of muscle. Stopped going to the gym and ended up 24 stone - not muscle. Got ill - nearly snuffed it, which gave me the incentive to diet - dropped to 16 stone. Put a couple of stone on over the build up to and Christmas period. Trying to get down to 16 stone again. Doing okay so far.
