fortune
I feel for your friend. I've had the same situation in the past where the dog just got separated out on the shoot and we just couldn’t find it. We called and shouted it’s name and drove all around looking everywhere for it. The afternoon drew on and it got to the point of darkness. We had no lamps with us so we came home had a quick cup of tea and a sandwich sorted out lamps and batteries and went back to the farm. Again we searched all over using the lamp to try to find the dog. My worry was that the dog would get run over out on the road or that if it did get out onto a road that it might cause a road accident. Also that it might find a snare without someone with it. We packed it in about midnight and were forced to stand down overnight by a combination of tiredness, hunger, equipment failure and the fact that we had covered the area about ten times. We were back out on patrol at first light again covering the area. A friend of mine went down to the wood where we had last seen the dog the previous day, called the dog and there it was. We never did know where it had been or why it didn’t come to the call the previous day but I was sure glad to see it all ok. We never had any problems any time after this with loosing the dog. It just didn’t happen again. I hope that the dog is soon back home safely.
fortune
Just looked back in to see if there was any news. If I was up in that area I would be out with you looking and helping you but I'm hundreds of miles away.

figgy
A GPS tracking collar would have been interesting to see where the dog went. Figgy
robbiep
Glad to see it's sorted. I've been up that area today shooting ferals around a farmyard (all air rifle work, as the owner's wife seriously believes shotguns will scare her horses to death ), had a good look on my way over and went for a mooch at lunchtime too.
