Cranfield,

Just looking at wikipedia and came accross this American site, it seems there is a fairly drastic difference in the colouring of the dogs from puppy to adult hood, the darker pups seem to become lighter in colour as the hair grows, are these the same breed of Otterhound as yours?

Fine looking dog by the way :good:

Her nose rarely leaves the ground and she can follow a trail very accurately.

The natural confidence she exudes is something I have never encountered in any pup I have ever seen.

Snarling/barking dogs straining at their leashes when we are down in the town, get treated with a disdainful glance.

She is an English Otterhound, they do come in a few colouration varieties, but have the same characteristics, size etc.

Most common is the black and tan, followed by "grizzle" (which Bramble is) and there are also "parti coloured" hounds, this can be black/white brown/white or a combination of the three colours.

Here are a couple of pics of the working pack she came from and you can see the variations.

I should mention that there are some "juveniles" in the picture that are not quite to adult size yet, you can see the difference.

The pack was kept together when otter hunting was banned and did nothing, apart from appear at County Shows etc., until mink hunting became feasible.

They now actively hunt mink with a full pack (30 odd hounds), but only two hounds are permitted to be used once the mink has been located.
