four-wheel-drive
This gets a bit boring after a bit one swears by one make and another says a different one why not just do what most women do buy the one that you like the look of simple problem solved. -Mongrel-
Best off road... Defender, might struggle with budget, in which case Disco. Best compromise on/off road...IMO probably a Land Cruiser, budget again says maybe settle for a Shogun. Most economical, neither of the above, probably something like an X-trail...not so good off road etc So... ...really, you need to decide what your priorities are THEN, people can advise. Oh, and no doubt someone will disagree with all of the options above. Edited November 16, 2013 by -Mongrel-

Ant67
Hi Thinxs, You are limited by your budget so the only landrover discovery or toyota landcruiser for that price will spend most of its time in the garage (especially landrover), a decent medium size 4x4 which is very reliable and practical and is available in your price bracket (I have owned two over the years in Australia and Uk) would be a mazda tribute, they often come onto the market with low mileage (punch it into autotrader) and dont cost the earth to run unless you go for the 6 cylinder petrol. Good luck with your search, and if you do find something worth looking at take a competant mechanic with you so you dont buy a lemon. Cheers......Ant

ferguson_tom
Joking a side £3500 will get you a lot of 4x4 depending what you want. Big stuff: Mitsubushi Shogun Discovery 300 tdi (and stil have about 1500-2000 change) Discovery TD5 Isuzu Trooper Landcruiser Nissan Terrano Mercedes ML Smaller: Suzuki Vitara Nissan Xtrail Older Honda CRV Rav 4 Freelander Subaru Forester All depends what you want it for. On the bigger 4x4 dont be put off by highish mileages buy on condition and if its been looked after.

Louiej
Been fortunate to have had some cracking cars over the years,as I worked for Toyota, Audi & now Mercedes Benz, but still miss my 1996 3.0 t/d Lancruiser Colorado that I picked up with180000 miles on the clock, it never missed a beat & was so useful .
