Work at it long enough and you can get something that looks like this. Mind you, I could have bought one of those Drone Pro's for the same money (it wouldn't perform as well though ;) )...

The next one is over an inch shorter, lighter and more compact, plus it'll drive the LED even harder. The torch is another project, driven by a dimmable 12v driver through a push/ pull zooming torch with aspherical lens.

Now that is without a doubt the best home build I've seen to date,I take it there's a near eye display in the back behind the camera with the electronics in the box above....is it powered from within the box or external battery?

Any problems with 'eye burn' as some have reported with the photon?.....although I guess that is what the contrast/brightness controls are for.

Excellent build :good: ...although I fear your inbox will go into meltdown pretty soon :lol:

It's getting smaller all the time, these are the test prototypes, as I get nearer completion it will reduce in size quite a bit.

Yes, it uses a near eye display and runs from a stock mounted, small Li ion cell. I can't run the lamp, camera and display on anything less and get a decent run time.

In tests this unit ran for three hours solid and still had life left. No overheating issues either. The unit can be rotated 360 degrees and the display remains upright, so can be used by all those flat cap wearers.

Don't know about the nitetek unit as I don't go on the marky vision forum much. I guess he uses a similar viewer but that's about it, from what I just read his has no contrast control and don't forget that the IR driver and dimmer system is built into mine and puts the controls right by your head so there is no fumbling around with a torch at the front of the rifle if you want to dim the light.

I'd also be amazed if his unit reaches anywhere near the distances mine will achieve at similar magnifications. I can make it much smaller if I remove the screen controls, driver and dimmer but as the dsa is a fixed length, frankly what's the point? It makes more sense to use that dead space for the controls to my mind.

But if you've managed to build something better, smaller and more practical yourself I'd be happy to see it, I'm always open to new ideas.
