woodcock1
Though I would post up a couple of photos I have taken during a few recent outings. I has been a good season so far with regard to woodcock numbers and although I have limited time available this season I have been fairly successful. I don't take as many photos as I should when I'm out but I do take them when the opportunity arises. A couple of the middle ones are stills from a gopro camera hence the poor quality. The bottom photo was taken today. I had a very wet and windy but enjoyable walk this morning.

wildfowler.250
Looks like you got a good patch of ground for a walk. Do you eat them all or sell them on? Managed 5 for a couple of flights last week. Ate the bird 'entire' and maybe not again..didn't taste bad, just not good

woodcock1
There is no end to ground around here for woodcock and getting permission is rarely an issue here in Ireland. I eat a few woodcock each week and the rest I take to work where there are always people waiting on them. Only downside about this is they have to be ready to cook before giving them in to work but i dont mind as it lets me shoot them and know they are being enjoyed. I usually just take the breasts off them and roast the little legs on their own. Very tasty snack. I mostly make pies stews and casseroles with them. Dont like the whole roast on toast idea. How do you find the 12 bore? Also what is the sxs? Great shooting by the way Cheers folks, they sue ate a special little bird. The Benelli Woodcock is a great gun. It is just about 6lb weight in 12g and does feel quite like a toy. I cover a lot of miles in a season and its important to me. I have learned to shoot very well with it. The SxS is a strange on too. It an American Ruger, Gold Label. Also 12g and about 6lb. Its very versatile being single trigger multi choke. It 3" chambered and magnum steel proof too. kermitpwee
That's a lovely bitch you have, I was watching some of your videos. What lines are in her and what age is she if you don't mind me asking?
woodcock1
There is no official breeding in her at all but comes for a good family of real hunting dogs. She is 3 1/2 years old now. The brown and white one is 2 and will be looking for a new address soon!
kermitpwee
Right so! no its just the bitch looks like my boy he is 8yrs and still hunting like a train. I am finding it hard to get anything decent compared to him. Might try a cocker next although he is still outhunting dogs half his age but that cant last forever. woodcock1
Another couple of years and he'll be starting to slow a bit. I have an old dog here whos 14 or 15. She hunted well until about age 11. By 12 she could only do an hour so she was retired by that time.
