11josh112
I just bought a silma shotgun multi chokes with 2 chokes however no choke key, will any choke key fit? And where do i get it from? - Thanks
fenboy
No not every key is the same , but if you only have two choke there is little point in removing them anyway , or do you mean you have two spare chokes ? If they are not in over tight then you may get away with a taper key. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Taper-Choke-Key-12G-/271337177945?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item3f2cf4c359 Edited December 31, 2013 by fenboy
billytheghillie
try a 20p piece.
superspark
I always remove my chokes after each shooting trip, clean treads, oil and refit. A lot of **** gets in with the treads which could make it difficult to remove should you wish to change them.
Therealchucknorris
There was no way I was paying for a Lanber choke key when I found the one that came with my gun didn't fit. A 20p didn't do the trick so I switched currency and a dime worked a treat. Just the right diameter for my chokes and soft enough metal not to cause any damage. 11josh112
Thanks! Are chokes good for clays/crows? Or should i just take them out, i dont know what chokes they are
Gordon R
If you take them out, you will trash your gun. There are fine threads on the inside of your barrels to screw the chokes into. Take the chokes out and your thread will soon follow. There are marks on each choke - dots, stars or letters. Post them on here and someone will be able to advise you what they are. Therealchucknorris
Ok thanks alot, i just thought they may needed to be taken out to be cleaned .. They help to add a little narrowing (or not) to your shot pattern. As I've just had a rather fine lunch I'm afraid I'm a little too lazy to write it all out now but this information should help you. In my experience they don't make an earth shattering amount of difference but well worth considering alongside the right type of cartridge matched to your quarry. steve_b_wales
This is what you want, although the one shown is for a 20g. I've used one for years. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Carlsons-20G-Speed-Wrench-/201009631419?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item2ecd1b90bb

Could really do with them taking out since there 1/4 chokes which i've been told are too tight for clays..

HDAV
1/4 isn't to tight for clays, marginally tight for skeet and probably too open for trap............. I think gordon meant if you took them out and then shot with no chokes fitted in a MC gun you can trash the threads.....

He means shooting your gun without the chokes in will ruin your gun at best and could damage you or a bystander at worst so DO NOT SHOOT WITHOUT CHOKES IN . The chokes fit in via a fine thread and if you shoot the gun without those threads will get wrecked . If you only have the two chokes forget about them , they do not need to be removed to clean. 1/4 is perfectly suitable for clays and most game shooting , so who ever is telling you otherwise is talking rubbish
silver pigeon69
if you removed the chokes, apart from damaging the gun, would this not make the barrel walls thinner at the ends and therefore weaker and dangerous? edited: i think the previous post has just confirmed this??
