brett1985
im on the fence.... im not gonna call BS as the story could well be true. i found a metal bar in a pack of fags once, no one believed me when i told them. turns out it was a packing ram of some sort, and i got loads of freebies. sometimes, the most unbelieveable things can happen... wether you believe they can or not.... Hamster
Something about this smells very strange! Amongst the misshaped fishing lead there is a flattened airgun pellet ! As someone has already said you could not get that lot through a loader if you tried, it smells fishy because it didn't happen. When we have the rest of the box turn up and upon witnessed scrutiny they turn out to be as claimed I will be the first to offer my apology. motty
Many thanks for the comment, I dont need to google it! I know what it means. My friend was present at the time of opening and the gun shop owner cut one open himself. So Bill Woods opened one up, did he? What did he find? I will have to ask him about it next time I see him. Motty, please re-read the first post where it says 'Alan', like I said in a first post 'IIRC' ( if I remember correctly) I assumed Alan was the owner. I stand corrected on that account if Bill is the owner! Edited January 13, 2014 by FatherandSon
Paladin
For those of you that aren't aware what a commercial loading machine looks like then George Young of www.propercartridges.com has one similar to Eley http://propercartridges.com/index2.php Eley load about a ton of shot from the top, this goes through a mesh into the machine hopper down a tube and into a shot slide. Right next to the shot slide is a pair of brass probes these sense the shot load stack any discrepancy +or- will set the proximity sensors at the top of the probes and stop the machine instantly. So to get 100% scrap shot into a cartridge would not be possible on one of these machines.
Livefast123
I cannot see any way that junk would get through a loading machine however maybe they had a couple of disgruntled employees at the time!

Highly unlikely, think about it, a disgruntled employee would want to do something with a high probability of being noticed by the end user but which cannot then be put down to sabotage. Nobody would have noticed that cartridge, you would just put it in and fire it off and in all probability kill the bird as well .

wymberley
I cannot see any way that junk would get through a loading machine however maybe they had a couple of disgruntled employees at the time! As an hydraulic engineer called out to rectify equipment failures I've come across this several times. A disgruntled employee is not thinking too far ahead, he/she just wants to cause havoc and often with little thought for the consequences. If this did actually occur, that would be my bet. PS. If anyone hears someone saying that back along they stuffed smashed up bottles in the hydraulic reservoir of a milk bottle washing machine near Norwich, would you kindly let me know? I want a little chat with that individual and I have something for his/her supper. Edited January 14, 2014 by wymberley
Paul223
I too think it's a load of bunkum, how's about we each split a cartridge or two and post the pics of the shot

aris
It would be an interesting exercise if done on a macro scale. Select a variety of cartridges, take out the shot, weight it (is it what it says on the tin), and then take a micrometer to the shot and see if it is the correct size as stated. SSS
My gamebore super game are fine. Would be interesting to know if anyone else had this sort of problem from the same or other manufacturers. At least you now know why you can't hit much - the full cream version patterns better.

aris
The shot sizes measured from 1.90 to 2.30 - on the same pellets! They are not 100% cylindrical. A 7.5 shot should be 2.28 - so i'm thinking these 7.5's are more like an 8 or something between an 8 and 9.

figgy
So between an 8&9 is like a .22&.177 so Eley are not Great upto now. I checked a Kent velocity not long after they came to the market and the few random ones I checked were all shy of 28 gram, the shot size was ok and quite round with only a few split and with bit cut off them in the ones I checked. Will check a Hull Super Fast and report back. Figgy
