Mercedes C class?

Thinking about taking the plunge and finally buying myself a decent car. Finally settled on a 2013 Mercedes C class manual diesel AMG sport pack plus.

My question is: how much difference is there between the C200 CDI and the C220 CDI?

Im watching and reading (on the internet) too many reviews for and against both, reasons such as C200= not enough power, boring to drive, sluggish etc. then others saying a pleasure to drive, better fuel economy etc.

Would like your (real life) thoughts and experience on the two please, if you've had/ got either or know someone that has?

Thanks.

I have a c220 cdi but mines a bit older than what you are looking at, it's a 2003 model. I've had it 10 years now and it has been very reliable. In that time it's had a new pair of front springs, a new thermostat, new heater plugs and last month a new battery. This is all apart from the obvious tyres brakes and other consumables. Unfortunately the only thing that let's it down the quality of finish on the bodywork. It's suffering from rust around the rear wheel arches. Would I buy another? Probably

Cheers

Tom

Mark, great choice 220 is the right choice over the 200, better fuel economy & far more enjoyable, & you wont find many AMG Sport

Plus spec with the 200 engine. Let me know what colour & spec you want as I might just be able to help you out & save you a few ££. My job.? Head of sales for Mercedes-Benz of Sussex. Give us a shout .

Am seriously considering this one

Its the right colour spec and its manual would prefer a C220 but would have to find one same as this.

Any ideas?

I had a 2006 c220cdi estate a few years back, at sixty thousand miles the turbo bearings went, despite the full Mercedes service history the best Merc would do was offer the labour free but insisted on £1500 plus vat for the turbo , fair enough you may think but it is just a standard turbo that I brought a few miles away for £700 minus the Mercedes Benz cardboard box and paid a friend a few quid for his time fitting, apart from that and the sheer embaressment it became at the first sign of snow it was a great car

ive got the new c250d with amg sports pack and like it, gets good miles to the gallon plus its quite nippy and the auto box is good too. my only complaint would be that the road noise can be a little much with the sports tires. No big deal for me but worth a test drive yourself, I pay about just under 400 a month lease.

I recently gave back my 61 plate C220d. The engine was frugal (could get up to 65 mpg if being prudent on the motorway and dual carriageways) and I liked the Comand nav and 10gb music system (very easy to use and didn't really put a foot wrong).

Downsides for me were:

  • small boot - wasn't quite big enough for what I usually wanted to carry and ultimately made me return it.
  • harsh engine note - sounded very rough when pushed higher up the rev range
  • notchy manual box - the autos are much better
  • dodgy stop/start eco system - to be fair could have been a fault on my car but garage never seemed to fix it. Kept stalling within 2 seconds of restarting and me trying to pull away.

Wouldn't pick up another C, but will be looking at the revamped E class when back in for another car in June. Much better car for the money IMO
