OGGIE
I'm thinking of buying a 2005 Land Cruiser 3.0 D-4D LC4. It's done about 60,000 miles ad it's a one owner vehicle. Has anyone any opinions of these such as things to look for, servicing costs, reliability ect. I know that the fuel costs will be quite a lot but I don't do that many miles and would like something comfortable to go shooting and fishing in.Thanks in advance,All the best,Alan. TR1
Make sure that it has had full service by reputable dealer. Check that it has had the injector seals checked/changed as per the Toyota service campaign. Any main dealer can advise on this if you call them and give the registration. Do not be fobbed off with them saying they have no knowledge of it. It is a FOC issue to you if vehicle has had full service history. Other than that enjoy but do not expect Hugh levels of comfort when compared to other upmarket 4x4's PM me if you want to discuss,
Fuddster
mines a LC 53 reg also 60k d4d auto. Your vehicle will fall into the injector seal fault as mentioned above. good bits-toyota reliabilty (chose over land rover due to horror stories).good looks-saw one today in silver same as mine and I still like the style of it.MPG is 32 out and about and 35 on a run at steady 75mph.7 seater or large cargo space. bad bits-skinny tyres in 225/70/17-will go over to 265/65/17 when the time comes.fuel pump went at 50k-toyota wanted £2000 but found a diesel specialist with a recon one for £900-blamed my use of supermarket fuel-only used BP since with no problems. servicing at Mr T is about £269 intermediate. check out landcruisers owners forum for bags of info. Aussie Police summed it up for me saying....'if you're going into the outback take a landrover-if you want to get back take a landcruiser'. good luck fudds
countryman
Just sold mine for a Hi lux, could not fault it really other than poor mpg, it was an auto though.
fandango
I have a LAnd cruiser vx 4.2 ltr, I use as me shooting truck as well as my weekend run around and some times use it for getting to work (260 mile round trip) , best vehicle I have ever owned, never been stuck (unlike the landrovers I have owned) its comfortable, plenty of room, reliable, dependable, it has 189000 on the clock and the engines still sweet,,,,,,,, will be go any where and just keeps going,, does roughly the same if not more mpg than the landrovers I have had... It's been fitted with a ally sport inter cooler and mid exsuast, 6 gear auto (3 are overdrive) front back and full diff lock as standard on these,, and they really work,, " never get stuck" The best vehicle I have ever had the pleasure of owning and will shed a few tears when it dies,, but will certainly get another Having been to various third world countries and seen what they drive ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, there all land cruisers
keg
We have an 07 LC4. Had it from new. Now on 126k and all fine. As has been said, check the injector and washers recall. Ours were swapped FOC. Not a rattle or squeak on it. It's an auto and we get 27 MPG day in day out.

seph234
If your looking at the 05 see if its the later spec(better MPG) with with more gears you can tell by looking at the instrument cluster, in the middle it will tell you what drive your in and will be followed by 234 if its the later one or if its an earlier one it will be 123. assuming its an auto. and if you are looking around that age be careful when you go past the 06 plate as the road tax jumps up a lot. Not just the Japanese, just look at how many Mercs there are in Africa . My mate has a 4.2 54 plate it's just a fab machine, watch air con pipes to the rear of the vehicle they can corrode and are v expensive (from Toyota anyway) What is it the ausies say , if you want to go into the bush take a landrover , if you want to come back again take a landcruiser
