steveyg
To celebrate my first 12 months on Pigeon watch I received a great offer to join Jdog this afternoon. Arrived just after 1pm and there were a few about,we sat and watched to try and pick up the best flight line and decided to sit in front of a small tree with the wind behind us on a recently drilled field. Set up with half a dozen dead pigeons in cradles and a couple on the flappers. Typical...traffic seemed to slow down when we set up and and the birds that were about stayed very high. We had a few decoy nicely and we were both shooting well. 7 for 7 at one stage then I go and miss a sitter.. Stunning scenery, cracking banter and a great way to finish the day with a pigeon that decoyed perfectly into the pattern. Just as I nailed the last bird. farmers helper turned up on a quad bike. He had 100+ on an adjacent field this week..this might explain why they were staying so high. Blxxdy stock doves were decoying beautifully...Jdog has the sight of an eagle and let me know when not to shoot... They certainly kept the adrenalin going..cracking site to see then fold their wings and target the pattern...shape they weren't pigeons Finished with 20 and a nice pint in the local Quality afternoon...Cheers Jdog.. fenboy
Sounds like a great day with a good end ! Stock doves are quite easy to tell apart one you get the hang of it , faster wing beat , smaller body , wings are more rounded at the tips . they can be a pain as they readily mix with pigeon , but I always think they can help bring pigeon into the pattern. JDog
One thing has changed with steveyg and another has stayed the same. His shooting has improved dramatically (it could hardly regress) and his enthusiasm remains as infectious as ever. I am only sorry that the birds gave us a wide berth. Only at the end of our session, as steveyg explained, did the reason become clear.

lloydi73
Hey J Dog, fancy taking a newbie under your wing and out for a couple of hours pigeon shooting? I live in Brize Norton and can't get any permission, because I'm new etc etc. I'm starting to get to know the locals, but if I had a bit of experience I may get a bit further....I'll bring the sarnies and buy ya a pint after??... I am afraid that you will be at the end of a long queue if you want to come out decoying with me. You may have read on some of my other posts that I normally take out socially inadequate types who have no ability to converse sensibly. You may well not want to be bracketed in that way.
