The Essex Hunter
I had seen some fresh fox scat while out with Chip, so decided to chance a walk on Thursday night... Getting to the land would be easy as it is one field behind my back gate...however I cant walk that way with the gun so I have to take a short drive down the road then walk across. Just as I stepped off the road and into the field I flicked the lamp and a set of eyes pinged straight back...Gun out the slip, one under the bolt as I called while walking knowing this field is 280 yards long. I came to a halt roughly half way along the field and held the lamp high..#~?&%$£ gone!! I put the gun on the sticks as it freed my hand up to give a squeak...Eyes!! As a car went past to my left I chambered the round and set the gun and dropped the fox... Second head shot this week... TEH

The Essex Hunter
well done, just out of interest what makes up your walking about kit . The scope has a light force lamp clip, the lamp is a modified LF 170 with filter and extended handle (the mod) a set of quad sticks and 7amp battery in a shoulder bag. My iphone and head torch, also home made caller + the reed type for a softer call. The gun is on my left, battery strap on left shoulder and bag on my right with the lamp in my left hand the sticks through the crook of my right arm leaving my right hand to work the switch. When I see a fox then I will give it a call and if it comes then I get set up, but if it is a long way or just sits tight I make a plan to shoot it! Two problems can occur is you bump a fox and the few extra second clipping the lamp on and not being able to hold the light just off as could be done with a lamp man. Having said that I do get my share, mainly from walking and knowing when to leave a fox and catch it out later in the week. TEH
