aris
It's basically virgins idea of Sky+ - except they use TiVo technology which was pioneered over a decade ago in the US. They launched it here in the UK, but it never really took off - ahead of its time I think. Virgin decided to license the technology to get a leg up on sky+ Records series onto local HD - supports apps like Netflix. Use the iPad to control it if you want - and stream your recordings from your tivo from anywhere. It's just quite slick. I'm impressed. I can see room for improvement in some UI areas, but it's good. aris
Found the ability to record 'new only' really good, however found the interface a bit slow compared to sky The tivo itself can be slow and frustrating, but if you install the iOS app - it is lightning quick to do everything. How do you stream to iPad? Install the Virgin TV Anywhere app. I just noticed that YouTube videos can be pushed to the TiVo too - just like Airplay or googles Chromecast. Just open a YouTube video on the IPad, and press the little icon in the iPad youtube app. So cool!
Willxx
Virgin has a major dislike of android, I've just canceled mine because their Apple fetish was sickening, brilliant broadband but otherwise terrible service and **** poor support for android - their anywhere isn't a patch on Sky Go as far as my Nexus (5 & 7) is concerned. theres a youtube channel on virgin so you could get that anyway, it also lets you use a tablet to control it (this being google owned my nexus supported!) aris
Have to love BskyB. They snap up all the best shows, and pass the costs on to their customers by keeping them 'exclusive' to Sky. At one point Sky1 had all the current best shows from the US. Virgin had a dispute with Sky over costs to license that channel, and for some time (some years ago) there was no Sky1 on Virgin. Eventually they came to an agreement for Sky1. What happens next? Sky come up with a new channel - Sky Atlantic with all the best shows. Sky1 is now basically a 'repeat' channel of rubbish. If you want to watch Game of Thrones and other current stuff - you can subscribe to Sky's TV-NOW for 6.99 a month (no contract) entertainment pack and stream it all over the internet. The now-tv box costs a tenner delivered http://www.nowtv.com I bought one of these to use as a Plex client.
weejase
Tivo sucks I upgraded and gave my son the v+ box for his bedroom and now wish I`d kept it and gave him the TiVo box instead. You can record 3 programmes eh!...yes, but you have to be watching one of the three and can`t change channel unless you cancel one It`s also too easy to record a programme that you don`t want and end up getting annoying messages saying you need to change channel 2 minutes before. I find myself going through the tv guide looking for the 3rd recording and getting annoyed because I didn`t even want to record It. And don`t get me started on the layout of the remote buttons...V+ was so much easier.

Poxy box makes a bit of racket and the Mrs keeps recording God knows what. She 'accidentally' keeps recording stuff and getting series links on this, that and the other and you have to go through each programme individually to delete them rather than just select a shed load delete the lot in one go. And I still can't get my cctv on my poxy S4! Well not reliably. Not sure if it's the phone or the router.
Zapp
I dont like it, for many of the reasons mentioned above. Mrs Zapp often sets a load of old cobblers recording, which means I cant change the channel to watch what I want if she has gone to bed. Also, what is with the stupid beeps and bloops it makes whenever you press a button? Is there a way to stop that?

Imperfection
I do have a few gripes with Tivo. 1) When i record stuff thats broadcast after 9.00pm and watch during the day it always prompts me for the pin number.I cant for the life of me find a way of deactivating this bit. 2) Some of the suggested recordings are a little bizzare.Every so often it will record an episode of that morning show 'Lorraine' despite me never ever watching it.However,it did record a show called 'Storage Hunters' on Dave and i have gotten quite into this and now have it on a series link so i suppose thats a positive to a negative. 3) It is a bit complicated when compared to the simplicity of Sky+. activeviii
You want to know what you have recording just press the 'my shows' button. It will show you at the top. Set up your mobile and you can set recordings up while out of the house. I did question the parental lock and it can't be turned off, something to do with broadcasting law. Just set the lock number to something easy. Like 0000. I do like the way that if I'm watching something and the phone goes I can pause the programming. Also we record a lot of shows that have ad brakes, then you just fast forward the adverts. My main gripe it that you also need the the TiVo box into the router to use the wireless recording or transferring YouTube. You would have thought that they would have built that part in considering there is a RG6 going in already to the feed is there, just split the signal in the TiVo box. More useful apps would be good to. Seams to have gone a bit stale
