Fuji Shooter
I purchased a Cartier a few years ago whilst I was in the States. I just mailed the empty box/papers home and wore it.
Fisherman Mike
Just wondered what other people have brought here sorta watch wise and if u get stopped at customs for proof of purchase etc? Did it work out cheaper too? Watch out for very plausible replicas (excuse the pun) even papers are accurately forged these days. If a deal on a top marque looks too good to be true it usually is. The high end makers rarely discount their stock to any great extent and you might be better off buying a pre owned model in good old blighty at one of the regular specialist auctions. The major Swiss watch makers adjust their American dollar prices regularly against the exchange rate of the Suisse franc and the sales tax in America also wipes out another 10 % of any perceived discount. Then you have the problem of customs, if like freakmode says you can mail the box and get away with it all well and good, but these days 9 times out of 10 this will be rumbled as you have to declare the contents and the packages are X rayed. Alternatively If you have an empty box in your luggage the guys at customs will be asking questions. I bought a discounted MontBlanc in America and tried to wear it back with the box in the luggage and it ultimately cost me more than I could have bought the watch for in England. Plus there is the service under warranty issue... many top end Marques will require the watch to be returned to the Authorised dealer before being sent to their service centre. This could cost you £100,s. America is the worst place to buy a high end watch at the moment in my opinion and I'm sure you could negotiate a acceptable discount at one of the outlets in the UK. What are you after exactly.?
