Pigeon shooting Monday

Recommended Posts

Ok this is a first for me .

I am willing to take one person only out for some pigeon shooting on one of my permissions .

The shooting will either be on peas or mustard depending on where I think there will be the best chance of getting a shot or two.

I will be leaving mine at around 9.30 am for a look around , but I expect the better sport to be from 2-8 pm

I cannot promise you will shoot a shed load but some of the fields are now seeing quite a lot of pigeon .

A few ground rules for the day.

This is a one off invite for the day only , it is not the ok to seek permission on my land for yourself.

Insurance is a must , as is a SGC , I will ask to see both before I take you out.

I will expect who ever comes to shoot for as long as I intend to stay .

You will need to be reasonably fit as there may be a walk involved depending on where I select to shoot.

I will also expect that who shoots will take and use / sell anything they get.

This day is free , but a couple of boxes of cartridges would be a nice gesture !

Someone should have a decent day with fenboy. Just put your wellingtons on for when you meet the labrador. Well done for putting the free day up for grabs. I am on call and it's to far to travel or I may have joined you

Wellies? You want the chest waders on with that dog about!

If i see any pigeons about Monday i'll send them your way fenboy, i'll be at work.

To be honest , it was poor.

I checked the field the previous day and there were a good 500 or so on the field .

I knew they had been getting on the field late afternoons so we went down around 12 pm and barely not a bird to be seen !

So plan B was to shoot a pea field I had seen good numbers on earlier in the week , so drove a mile up the road to the peas ----------------------you guessed it not a pigeon on the field or in the air .

So back to the mustard as I was confident birds would get on it later on , in 20 mins or so we were away there was perhaps a 100 on the field when we got back to it.

So I put my guest Dean in what I thought would be the best spot while me and ayano3 went up the other end of the field , Dean had 4 or 5 shots while we were setting up managing a couple for his magnet

It was very slow for Graham and myself we saw a few birds but most showed no interest in coming into the pattern and just drifted wide , we only managed 8 between us .

Dean up the other end did get some shooting and managed about 12 for 30 or so shots .

As it was slow me and Graham packed in he headed home and I joined Dean for a hour , no sooner had Graham gone birds started pouring into where we had just packed up ! this was about 17.30 and 200 or so dropped in while I was with Dean , typical !.

We packed up and out of interest I took Dean down to the peas that we looked at earlier , low and behold there was about 1000 birds on them

So all in all a frustrating day its fair to say.

Dean seemed happy enough and took some pigeon breasts for the freezer , but I did feel a little bad that the day did not work out as well as I thought it would .

Thanks for yesterday Adrian I had a great day and it was nice to meet you and Graham , I couldn't believe the birds dropping in after you two had packed up it was as though they knew the coast was clear and it was dinner time lol ,the pea field we returned to was alive with birds I have never seen as many but im sure you will get amongst them and thin them out a bit I would need a tractor and trailer to carry the cartridges I would need to tackle the job lol, thanks again mate and thanks for the tips maybe one day with the help of people like yourself and the others on here who offer shooting to the less fortunate amongst us I might one day better my 1 in 3 curse :)
