With such a spurious confrontation, you sure the farmer didn't have a hidden agenda...i.e. kick you off in favour of a mate of his or the other shooters...or even worse, he had people now willing to pay for the shooting, and didn't have the nads to ask you to now pay??

Sorry, I always have been a tad suspicious, comes with the job... :)

not sure, it didnt seem to play out that way... i mean if someone doesnt want you shooting on their land its a simple matter of telling them... this whole thing plaied out very differently. i know its one of the very few decent sized crop farms around here and he used to have a LOT of people shooting there... ive only been a handfull of times, well maybe ten at the very most but it was rare not to see others there shooting on some part of the farm

Sounds like a good example of a general permission where you really don't want to be one of several people shooting up there. The farmer clearly lost his rag generally with shooters, other than you I'm sure, and then mistook you for some people he had warned previously then you took the eruption of him finally get ****** off.

This is one of the main reasons I left NPPC, I used to spend more time cleaning up cartridges, crisp packets and even a broken flask on occasion, the last straw was picking up a sheet of news paper that had a **** stuck to it.I was always worried that I would be blamed for someones mess. Now I have my own perms I make sure I clean up and if ive been using the semi in the roost wood I check the next day for carts I poss may of missed when it got to dark to see.Its one of the reasons I always buy red cartridges.

Hi kiffy

Your story sounds exactly the same as I had with classic car storage.

I have been using a farmers barn for 3 years to store cars, had a good relationship with the farmer,

One day he calls telling me to get my cars out ASAP !!??

He wouldn't even come out when I called to remove the cars, no explanation

His son had been talking to him about tax, he got agitated and made a knee jerk reaction, me paying cash spooked him,or so it seemed

I am guessing something spooked your guy too, you just got the dirty end of the stick

People/ families twist and turn , you just get to see the end result, not the process, not the thinking.

I went home built a small barn for myself, cars all cosy

I've a mate who got told to go because he took someone with him, he was just carrying his bag but that was enough ,he just didn't want anyone thinking they had right to his land , I can see his point .

The problem I see is often there too free with giving permission then get fed up when everyone turns upon the same day.

I had a farm who used to rota guns and if they didn't turn up during there shift they were out he also used to phone if he was about to drill peas so you could plan. Good bloke never forgot a face , see him about always had a chat .

Oh and as for them leaving a mess they can it's there land, though not a good sign of a farmer.

John.

Your probably getting the blame for something others have done and the owners are confused who they've spoken too about it. I wonder did they tell all shooters to clear off or just yourselves. You wouldnt be sure who has said what about you. Id wait a few weeks and pop out for a chat and ask what went wrong or how can you fix it as you enjoyed your sport there. They mite say, fed up with cartridges or wads littering the place. Id maybe say look ill use fibre wads and pick up any rubbish others leave. Could be worth a try and the temper will have lessened by then.

Very strange but then again could be more to it than meets the eye!

My dad and his brother had a 400ac farm they shot for over 25 years. In that time the farm had been rented out and changed hands a number of time. Each time the leaving resident farmer always gave a good review of corrector, well mannered gentlemen and tidy responsible shooters my dad and uncle where and still are, and always got to continue to shoot the farm. I started my love of shooting on this property as a 4 year old boy. Shooting my first pigeon and pheasant there with a Webley .22 air rifle. Remember as if it was yesterday and shot there until I was 19 (38 now) then I move away to Australia. Where I am today. I miss the pigeon shooting that's the reason for me using this forum to keep an eye on what's new.

Any way getting back to it, I got the news that they had lost the shooting ground 5 years after I left. And the main reason was they where bulled off by a so called Professional Shooter. I could give the name but I wont at this point. He's well known. They where not kicked off as such by the farmer but where harassed by this PS as he had paying customers from overseas and was paying the farmer to have them there. Before it got to the point where my dad and uncle just stopped going, there where empty shells every where and other rubbish just left around the farm. In the hide's they had used all those years and rubbish in the ditches. They spoke to the farmer and he just said you will just have to get along with each other. They tried there best to call this PS to say they where going shooting but each time they got told that there was a planed shoot on so stay away. In saying that the planed shoots where 3 or 4 times a year. In all those years they shot every weekend in the winter months. And knew he was just saying it to keep them away. They just gave up in the end and walked away loosing a grate shooting ground to a selfish A Hole!

The story do's not end there!

My uncle had manage to find some new shooting ground after they left the other not far from the lost ground. They shot there for a number of months until they got told by the farmer that there was a PS wanting to shoot the same new farm they where on. They asked who it was and guess who? Yes it was the same person. They told the farmer what had happened at the last place where they got bullied off and lucky for them the farmer was on there side and told the PS to go away and don't ask again. To this day my dad and this brother are still shooting the property and are still take there rubbish home.

Maybe this could of happened to you. How many farmers would say no to cash in the hand, not many I'm sure. And I know because I'm a farmer my self and know how they think!
