Olliesims
Looking at buying myself a pair of binoculars for around the £150 mark, so far have seen 2 pairs that catch my eye, the Nikon pro staff 7 8x42 or the vortex diamondback 8x42, does anyone have any experience which either of these or have any other recommendations? Cheers

Redgum
vortex for the money, had a look through some at the CLA last year, you may get a pair of bushnell ex excursions for around that price. I have a pair, bought them when they were a lot more expensive and I don't feel I have a need to upgrade em ever.
FOXHUNTER1
Doubt you will get anything decent for that price , best look at a second hand pair of something with more quality .....
steve_b_wales
Take a look at the Hawke Nature Trek 8x42. An excellent good quality pair. http://www.birdwatching.co.uk/Birding-gear/Birdwatching-Binoculars/Hawke-Nature-Trek-8x42 http://www.onestopnature.co.uk/Binocular-Reviews/Hawke/Hawke-Nature-Trek-8x42 (where I bought mine from)

Olliesims
I had looked at them but wasn't sure if they would be worth the money, I wouldn't use them enough to warrant spending a lot on binoculars, cheers for the recommendation Steve
steve_b_wales
I had looked at them but wasn't sure if they would be worth the money, I wouldn't use them enough to warrant spending a lot on binoculars, cheers for the recommendation Steve I had a very expensive pair of bino's (Swarovski) but could'nt justify keeping them for the little use they had. I sold them and bought the Hawke ones, and I'm very pleased with them. They are not up there with the likes of Swaro & Zeiss, but neither is the price. I recommend these 100%
Olliesims
Which size would you recommend 8x42 or 10x42?
steve_b_wales
Go for the 8x42. Better field of view. I was always told to get 7 or 8 x mag; when I used to go stalking. You will be amazed at the clarity of the lens on these bino's. Also, I preferred the closed hinged ones, over the open hinged. If you were nearer, you could have borrowed mine to see for yourself just how good these are.
moor man
+1 8x42. I can vouch for Hawke, I have a pair of Frontier EDs but these go for £250+excellent! Also heard lots of good reports re. Vortex. You need to get your hands on a few pairs to compare. If you can look through a set of Swaros or Zeiss for reference that may help..... hoggysreels
I had a look round for some cheap binoculars ... some where good, some not so good. As previpusly mentioned, try and use a set of Swaros or Karl Zeiss as a yard stick ... presently lm still using a set of Zeiss 10x50 and for the money l was prepared to lay out for another pair "reason for second pair was smaller compact size/lighter weight etc" l'd have to accept a marked decline in ability ...as of yet lve put things on hold, just carrying on with bulky Zeiss, with excellent optics all the same ...good luck ... cheers
Gunman
Bought a second hand pair of Olympus 8x40 three years ago for £45.00 . Excellent in my opinion and at that price I am not to worried if they do get damaged or lost .
