Shooting Incident - I nearly got shot last night!

Recommended Posts

Tragic response to a serious incident - luckily you weren't hurt but it could have been so different.

I would write a letter to the Chief Con - stating you are an FAC holder and the details and your unhappiness with the response time and action. Copy the Police Commissioner in and the local newspaper.

You aren't overreacting Pete but 999 everytime in a firearm incident - beats me how they can ask for additional medical reports and ignore this type of incident or treat it so casually.

With reagrds to crime reporting. I reported an attempted fraud on the governments fraud line. End of the month I get charged £1.88 on my phone bill for the privilege. Wont be reporting that again. (Helps the government stats)

In law you can use reasonable force. Someone in the dark woods shooting at you with a rifle, do it back.

I don't think that shooting someone on purpose would be classed as reasonable force so that my friend is something that i would never ever think of doing and nor (In my opinion) should anyone else. I suspect that that to do so would most certainly result in saying goodbye to their FAC and/or SGC and their rifles and shotguns, and most likely quite a long holiday at Her Majesties Pleasure!

I'd have been tempted to call 999 rather than the 101 non emergency number, in the end to the best of your knowledge someone just shot at you

Exactly right, that way you would have got the immediate response you wanted/needed.

Ringing 101 is almost a waste of time and a response on the same day as the call could be a record.

101 is like the clever queues at Disney, smoke and mirrors and distraction techniques.

Just because you put a call through on the three nines doesn't mean that it will get a quicker response. Calls can be graded higher or lower using the NDM previously mentioned. You will, however, get the call answered quicker.

More the reason to get these under some form of licence, any responsable shooter would not object. My son had one pointed at his face a couple of years ago when he was out fishing.I had an incident last year when an allotment owner near my allotment wizzed a lellet past my head. When I went round he was not shooting rats but rather proud of the Robin,Chaffinch and Wren that he had shot.Phone the bill nothing done, maybe once these guns (firearms) are registed under licence the better.

I reckon as responsible gun owners we should just push to ban them, they are only used by kids, and cowboys, if you were serious about shooting you would have a real gun on fac or sgc

What about the thousands of responsible airgun owners? Not sure you've really though it out before you posted it.:no:

I would not like them banned but deffinatly licenced,I use a pcp sub 12lb along with fac air and rimmy. In my eyes people just think they are plinkers, they are a firearms and should be treated as.They are very capable of seriously injuring both people and pets . Unfortunately there is a minority out there that think they can just wander and shoot anywhere as Pete has found out and he's been very fortunate not to have been hit. There are a lot of responsable sub 12lb shooters who are responsable and should not be labelled as cowboys,I have had the pleasure of being out with a few and their field craft is 2nd to none and i feel that they are not respected enough. But licencing is the way forward and most of the serious airgun/rifle shooters I speak too agree

So, in the absence of my HW80 should I use a 12 bore or .243 for the rats under the chicken coop  . Course they're REAL guns aren't they, though my neighbours might object to the noise somewhat.

C'mon matey, there are horses for courses, but I do think something needs to be done to get them out of the hands of muppets.

Frenchieboy,

You can't commit armed trespass in a public place as it's public so no trespass.

If you don't know who it was how do you know they didn't have permission?

From 50 or so yards away in a wooded area you could tell that it was a springer and it was 'well up on power'. I'm impressed!

Did you see the people shooting?

Do you have the pellet?

Exactly how far away from hitting you was the pellet?

Is there any damage?

Are there any witnesses other than yourself or anything else to back up your story?

Do you have any real evidence the police can work with?

Did you have anything to drink at the bit of a knees up your wife was organising?

101 or 999 the call goes into the same room it's just that 999's get picked up quicker and if it's not a genuine 999 call they will tell you to ring 101 and hang up.

Like someone already said Saturday nights are not normally quiet especially when England are playing in the World Cup. If you went back into your house you have removed yourself from any danger and there is no need to break their necks to get to you within 10 mins and put other peoples lives at risk.

You obviously dont know an honest man and a willing shooter when you see one.

I am surprised DH at your comments - I had you down as one of the good guys.

Thoughtlessly insulting is about the size of it.
