JDog
Last Saturday's drive around without firing a shot provided a good day on the fallow field on Sunday and another one today that was very unexpected on an Estate I never thought that I would ever get onto. The crop was harvested wheat, harvested because it had 'take all' or a similar virus and it had been harvested for whole crop silage. Pigeons do not differentiate between wheat seeds that have the virus and those that do not. My companion and I met at 1pm and we were truly amazed at the number of pigeons on a flight line over that particular field. We were set up by 1:40 with two rotaries and real bird decoys. We estimated afterwards that 10% of the birds we saw decoyed, 20% came within range, and that we saw 2,000 birds during the afternoon. We shot pretty well and we fired getting on for 400 cartridges (just counted the empties) between us and we eventually picked 220 pigeons. If there are any spelling mistakes please excuse them as I am well and truly knackered and shell shocked, and apologies for the short post. There is no doubt...... that this was the very best day's pigeon shooting I have ever had. Edited July 9, 2014 by JDog

fenboy
Sound like a great day , I can imagine you are knackered , my best ever bag was 220 but I was alone , it starts getting hard work and I ached for days after . I had walked a good distance from the motor and had to make four trips back one with the kit and three with the dead pigeon I was but a youngster too , god knows how I would cope now , I would love to find out though !! Enjoy the result of your labours you deserve it. I go along with P C we keep saying you had a good day , good bag ect , but the effort and time you put into the sport you deserve the days you get. I thought I was keen but you leave me way behind in the tramlines . P C is keen also, but even he have to have a break to charge his batteries up as well as giving his local pigeon population a false sense of freedom .
