affinity121
Would have thought it would be the other way around. Do many people actually shoot plas wads these days ?
rbrowning2
Why leave plastic litter about when you do not need to? Fibre diet got to be better? Dare I say should be mandatory for all except clay grounds? Mind you would be good if they could make a biodegradable fibre cup wad like plastic to protect the shot but for the same price as a plastic wad any biodegradable cup wads are currently very expensive alternative to conventional fibre wads as far as I know. theshootist
Fibre only for me too :(
Guest cookoff013
plastic is fantastic. the internal ballistics point of view, it produces faster shells, relatively lower pressures compared to equivalent fibre wadded shells. reduces lead fowling, keeps better pattern fringes, reloads better. they however look awful as litter... thats the only downside. theshootist
Absolutely agree with plastic for performance but most places I shoot demand fibre only, it's as simple as that. If proper cartridges do a fibre wad in the future I would be interested.
aris
This was posted here some time ago: http://www.cartridge-wad.eu/ Bio-degradable "plastic" wad. Perhaps Proper Cartridges may like to investigate it - particularly for any potential steel cartridges. As they are water soluble, would be ideal for wild-fowling. Also found this: http://www.ecowad.com/ They seem to be British. Edited July 16, 2014 by aris
rbrowning2
The ecowad.com manufacture only the material not a wad. The .eu maufacture is using PVA some of the problems with these materials is shelf life of the finished cartridge may be only be in months or years not ten's of years like normal plastic wads. biodegradeable plastic wads are about but they still take a lot longer to degrade than conventional fibe wads that and their premium price has made them unpopular. who ever cracks the problem will make a fortune. TIGHTCHOKE
I use plastic where allowed and fibre if I have to!
aris
The ecowad.com manufacture only the material not a wad. Might be worth contacting if they know someone who is manufacturing wads from their material.
itchy trigger
was in Proper Cartridges last week to collect some fibre wad, it was a very informative visit to say the least, they have tried the bio degrading wad, there were some samples made up, that I was shown in a box, the wads appeared to be in a not very good condition, degrading in the case, I forget how long they had been there, but not that long,

Sixes32
I always shoot plastic if I can for better patterning, but most places you can't these days
Hamster
surely they should not start to break down unless in contact with moisture atb Evo When Kent Champions offered the biodegradable plastic wads in the early 90's a pigeon shooting friend of mine placed several fired wads in pots around his garden an a few in clear plastic bags with soil in the bottom and hung in direct sunlight, a year or two later most looked passable enough for reloading! He got bored and threw them away but I can assure you they didn't degrade, I used to use Champion 28g plaswads and tried 1000 bio versions but they didn't seem as good so never tried any more. propercartridges
hi all honest I am rushed so I will be quick I have got bio but I am not content with the ballistics but I can also say at 62 years of age and can walk from my home to Edinburgh on the land I have permission to shoot and shoot well over 200 days a year at some thing or other I have never and repeat never been asked to shoot fiber wads so if you see a hilux with the reg PIOEON with the bolt holes in the o so it looks like pigeon let me know and you might get sum samples but they will be plastic have to go thanks all george
figgy
Nowt wrong with pladwads, better patterns. Now just need Proper cartridges to start remaking the Little Devils or similar fast soft shooting clay cart. Squeeze trigger Pop and dust very nice very little recoil. Probably end up using the 28 gram 6 shot pigeon loads. But would prefer a dedicated clay load. Figgy Edited July 18, 2014 by figgy
