Jacks1342
I'm looking at buying some insa turbo tyres for my grand, either the rangers or the dakars. I think the sensible option would be the rangers for the 50/50 road handling but I much prefer the look of the dakars. I have plenty of time to look around at other options as my current tyres have plenty of tread but are pure road tyres so I would run into difficulty as soon as it gets wet. So does anybody own either tyre and be able to give an honest opinion on them. I have searched through the forum and there are mixed opinions. I'm pretty confident at their off-road ability, this post is driven towards the on road ability -rain,snow,motorways, mpg differences, or any general handling characteristics? Cheers
Twistedsanity
Sorry but I have never heard of them, all I can offer is changing from road tyres to off road knobbly ones will ruin your MPG and increase road noise tenfold
secret-squirrel
I had a set of insa turbo special tracks ( the real off road deal) wow at 50mph on the road. Sounds like a light aircraft is following you . I had. them on a Ford ranger And in the wet on tarmac on round abouts wow hope you like looking were your going out the side window hahaha . I no there not the ones your looking at but that's my experience . On the other hand I had a set of insa turbo SAHARAHS on my disco . Honestly I would reccomend them they Was good on the road and absolutely brilliant off road . I think they are 60/40 . And road noise wasn't bad .it was no issue for me and my landy was my daily driver 30 mile round trip . Yes insa are all remoulds . People say you cannot balance them and if you ever went on the motorway they will tip to bits . Not in my experience . My mate balanced them for me Easyer that my old set of bf's ! And I did my fair share of 70mph motorway driving and they never lost a lug !!!! . Anyway that's my experience pal Just thought I'd add . Iv now gone for general grabber at2. Tyres and I cannot fault them at all . If most of you people saw were my disco has been on these tyres you would be shocked . Great on road and absolutely brilliant off road and iv heard people say they can last 40k miles !!! . landy george
Nothing wrong with Dakars in the wet & cheap too replace if you scrap it off road. They do wear out quicker than say a BFG but then they are 1/2 the price. The only problem is: as they are a remould tyre the rim could be full up with weights. Don't know about mpg as I've always run off road tyres. Just remember your not driving track car it's a 4x4 & you'll be alright.
Davyo
Been running dakars on grand vit for 2 yrs, not noticed fuel diff, and brill offroad, When its icey or snow always leave in 4wd ,be carefull in wet around corners but you soon learn the limit lol.Cheap as chips as prev said, mine have less than half worn and car used every day on the road. There is a slight road noise from the tread on tarmac but you get used to it.
Dougy
I have had a full set of Hankooks MT on my Pickup, they where put on in June 2011, i have recently replaced the front 2 with a pair of Maxims MT. The front Hankooks wore down early and were rather noisy due to what i can only explain as castle type wear on the treads every other one wore more that the next nobbly bit, it was only then that the noise was too much. I would reccomend Hankooks any day, ( couldnt get Hankooks at the time so went for Maxims) MPG does drop but its part and parcel, if you need economy from a truck then you bought the wrong vehicle, or have a spare set for summer use. BrowningDJC
The dakars and an mt pattern and will wear quickly and be noisy on the road, also not great in the wet. The ranger is an all terrain pretty much a copy of a BF Goodrich All terrain. If the vehicle is only really used for shooting then the dakars will be ok, but if its an every day car then the rangers might be a better bet. Not really a remould fan so i would spend a bit more and get a set of BF Goodrich or General Grabber all terrains.
kennett
Had rangers on a vitara, shogun sport and l200. All wore well, even with an A road commute, excellent off road and never had a puncture in any of them. Only down side was the tyre shop said they were an pain to balance. Davyo
Agree Kennett they are a pain to balance but an excellent tyre for the money, I very rarely exceed 50mph in the vitara so being a remould is not an issue.off road they are awesome.i travel a 50 ml round trip with a lot of soft stuff in between 3 days a week plus running around local B roads daily and the wear is much better than expected so will defiantly have another set Edited August 4, 2014 by Davyo
Jim c
All the insa tyres are to value so cant really go wrong. I've got the insa turbo Saharas on my disco 2. Yeah loud on the road but excellent offroading so I put up with the noise for the use I get on fields and mud
stokie
I had a set of dakars on my defender . They wore out in 10,000 miles . Were noisy as hell and rubbish in the wet . Save your money and get bfg as that's what they are a replica of . Then you can get 70 k out of a set . If your truck dies then the tyres still fetch good money on eBay .
