aris
After increasing my heart tablets my Doctor suggested that I join weight watchers-most surgeries now carry a free 3 month voucher to join. So along I went and i'm hooked-without really trying and simply reducing portion sizes and increasing activity I have lost nearly 2 stone in 16 weeks-the upshot of this is a serious reduction in my Meds and a lot more energy. The desire to lose more weight than other people in your group ( you tend to get small groups gathering together every week) is an amazing driving force and to see people gaining confidence in themselves as their weight falls off is inspiring. If you go along with an open mind then I can highly recommend it. You can also have a look at myfitnesspal.com (also apps for your smartphone). Similar idea, but the community is virtual. You can also link in activity trackers such as the FitBit to your daily routine.
DorsetJasper
Be very careful with the Herbalife shakes, my wife was on them for about 6 months and the weight loss came but then suddenly she started having severe pains in her stomach and now has an allergy to gluten. The doctors put this new intolerance down to the Herbalife Shakes and they were very critical on the plans and shake diet idea. We have known of other people who have also struggled with side effects after 6 months so please be careful. If it works and you have no side effects excellent but be careful if you start getting stomach pain and cramps.

It is 100% a pyramid scheme where the guys at the top don't care about their customers loosing weight and getting healthy, all they care about is profit. They use the cheapest ingredients they can get their hands on to maximise the money they can make. They add loads of sugar to their shakes to get you hooked, use huge amounts of processed carp and numerous chemicals. Do a google search on them and read some unbiased/non-marketing reviews and you'll realise that you're paying a huge amount of money to kill yourself with this poison. There's so much information out there for free on nutrition, just make sure it's based on science, not profit. James_w12345
I'm on the 'fasting' diet thingy. Works for me. I'm not totally convinced about the BMI theory. I'm 6' 1" and 13 stone, and was 11 stone 'til I stopped smoking about 10 years ago. Aiming to get back down to round about that weight as there are expensive shooting clothes I struggle to get into nowadays and I sure as hell aint giving them away! BMI is a totally flawed measurement. It doesnt take into account bodyfat. so a 6ft4 guy that is very strong and muscly would be considered clinically obese because muscle weighs a lot more than fat. (knowledge from doing a PhD in upper GI medical devices with gastroenterologists) The best measurement is standing in front of a full legth mirror naked and being honest with yourself. Diets are temporary, what's needed are lifestyle changes. Sensible eating patterns and exercise, Easiest way to control weight is not to buy bigger size clothes. When they get tight cut back or increase the exercise. Don't worship food, it is but fuel. Tom Edited August 14, 2014 by TriBsa
Dunkield
Just the sort of reaction I would expect by a bunch of Fat ******** in denial.....crack on !.......... The Herbal Life thing is 'stop me ask for details' you see on stickers on the back of cars = pyramid selling Poeple aren't cynical they are trying to open your eyes to common sense. Read the first line of post #7, very slowly, and as many times as it takes to sink in, it's the best advice in the thread, and it won't cost you a fortune. Went to a presentation when this first hit our shores back in the 80s. Out and out pyramid selling. They're currently under investigation in their home country for such. Seems though they're making a fortune in China.
Fisherman Mike
...you wont put me off...I actually checked with my MD and the practice dietician before starting the meal replacement shakes... The Dietician (Phd Cantab) said it was very good and safe supplementary diet and 150 million + worldwide cant be all wrong. I appreciate your concern and I am still eating food but healthy food. Its not been Pyramid sold to me as the distributor is my future son in law and he gets it for me at the same cost to him.! Once its done its job I shall revert to a sustainable and healthy diet... and laugh in the face of all you sceptical fatties

The chemical analysis and ingredient content on their products is quite specific and they would be in serious breech of international consumer law if they lied about it Do a google search on them and read some unbiased/non-marketing reviews and you'll realise that you're paying a huge amount of money to kill yourself with this poison. Mentalmac
On a separate but similar note, I've noticed some people on my Facebook swearing their lives against this aloe Vera stuff - you can drink it and you lose all our body fat in 10 mins, you can rub it on sore joints... Restores sight in the blind, grew back a leg... As luckily you can BUY it from them for a price. Luckily it works for them? One girl put a pic up before and after and she's just as overweight but stood further away...

Enjoy it as you see fit, but don't try and convince us that Herbalife is any good. Oh, and by the way, I'm a very fit and healthy pensioner who is definitely not overweight - I had a lot more self control all my life so I never got to the point where I needed to pay for expensive dietary "supplements" to get any excess weight off.
