Mentalmac
Hi All, I had last week off work as holiday (it's actually harder work than being at work with my kids)! All week my step daughter was nagging me to get out to go shooting - I had already gone a few times as the wheat was harvested but she was sleeping over at her friends when I went. So last night I decided to tell her to grab my other camo coat and we'll head out. We turned up and were sat in against a hedge for a while waiting for the rabbits when the people who just moved into the cottage on the edge of the land as you drive in (They don't own any of the land, just literally the cottage and small garden on the farm track toward the land) decided they would treat their friends and family to a country walk.... EXACTLY WHERE THE RABBITS COME OUT. Luckily, he spotted me and realised that they would be walking in my line of fire so turned back. He often wonders around the land (Which isn't his) which makes my shooting that bit harder at the moment. Anyway, after a while a rabbit came out and after having to wait patiently for him to move into a good position to shoot we took the shot at 60 yards and down he went. Was unusual as at first I thought he was clipped and he was flip flopping about, but on retrieval he had half of his head, eye and skull missing with no brains left. Lots of damage from the HMR round. Click Here for pic if you aren't squeemish The lass was getting a little bored of sitting on brambles so we went for a quiet walk. I managed to shoot another rabbit, this time a kneeling shot at 50 yards and now 2 for the pot. Before we left, I set up a coke can and let her have a couple of shots with the 12g on it. After a while we decided to pack up, but then she saw some pigeons coming over the crest of the hill on the wheat stubble field going toward us (likely to go to the large tree's in the paddock) and we tucked into the hedge behind some bushes on the edge of the field. I knew that if they headed over me I'd have a good chance of having a pigeon but she said "Can I shoot one?" so I thought well go on then - just let her have a go. I popped in 2 32 no6 carts and told her this would hurt more and be like a punch compared to a clay load. Luckily for us, one of the pigeons came in low and slow incoming straight on and she stood and BANG, swiftly followed by a thud behind us. She had got her first pigeon. Very proud moment, and hopefully I can find her a cheap second hand gun, perhaps a 20g or 28g perhaps. As she seems to come out with me more and more now which is nice. It's good to have some company to enjoy shooting with.

Mentalmac
Brill story and well done your daughter. They always out shoot their dads.....I know ! U. Thanks Underdog :-). The worst bit was that she didn't even share any pigeon with me exclaiming that I had two whole rabbits to eat instead! She had pigeon breast on toast with melted cheese on top for dinner (She even breasted it with my supervision). She kept the cartridge and put it in her memory box (hope she keeps that for when she gets a proper boy friend and he learns that he better be careful!) :-). Hope you are well. Thought of you (ooh er) the other day, I was sat in the wood doing a spot of squirrel shooting and wished I had a nice old classic gun for the job to make it a little more interesting, but alas finances are a little wavy at the moment. JDog
Others will say it but she is far better off doing that with her Dad than being on Facebook.
figgy
Well done. A nice 20 bore would be better than a 28 bore not much difference in weight and if she can handle your twelve for a shot it's no problem. Carts are more plentiful for a 20 and cheaper. If she is anything like my daughter she used to show them the spade in the garden first the tell them I shoot and better be good they used to shudder. Had to tell her to pack it in. I definitely agree on that one. She's trying to commission me to make her a pair of rabbit skin gloves for the winter or asked if I could make a rabbit fur into a pencil case (I have a few that I tanned). Funny kid. Well done. Figgy Nice, I'll start keeping an eye out. She's a tall girl for her age (10 years old but needs 12-13 clothes). Just lacks some upper body strength as she's very thin. She can handle a 12g ok, but for only a few shots before she gets tried so don't want to put her off too much. Haha Nice one on your daughter and the spade - I might make my flower bed look a bit more like a murder scene for when the first one comes round :-)

The Mighty Prawn
Good man - far better to do stuff like this with dad than all the usual lone wolf in a bedroom stuff! Although 32g? I'm half tempted to call the social - they make me wince!

I'm half tempted to call the social - they make me wince! Haha we have a great relationship, we do martial arts together and spar a lot (with proper techniques) and she often wants to do anything I do if it looks cool (except many times she then gets hurt and shouts at me haha normal house catchphrase "Ergh hate you dad!" (Especially when I put a fake spider in her bed the other day in response to her putting a snail in my welly)!

Cool that you have 3 girls, I do too. 10, 3 and 1. Ah bless, you should have let them skin a bit of it or something. Do you ever tan the hides? You could make an awesome patchwork rug or something for the kids. They'd like that. (Like my step kid who wants anything with rabbit fur on it (Pencil cases, cushion cover etc...) the best one was at a local auction there were a load of rabbits in small boxes and she was looking at them (Domestic ones like) and she said "Wow, Dad, feel this one - it would make an awesome paid of gloves" and this old lady looking at the rabbits gave me the dirtiest of all looks! Doh! (I then had to audibly explain the difference between domestic and wild).
