I see the idiots are still out there...

Public transport can't cope at the moment at peak times. If we all did as he suggested it would also be gridlock.

Build a few more roads, it might help.

Before I retired car journey to work took 30 mins. Public transport for the same journey would have taken 2hrs with a 20 minute walk at either end. Didn't mind the 20 min walk but 2hrs each end of the day was too much, especially as I often combined the journey home with a trip to the supermarket as well.

When the buses were not privatised the bus companies used to run into every village and subsidised the less profitable routes with the busier ones. When private companies were allowed to come in a cherry pick the profitable routes the less busy routes couldn't be sustained anymore. Hence the loss of a lot of rural bus services.

Clearly a few cornflakes short of a packet but in some respects hes recognised that the transport problem in Britain is a ticking time bomb..

Build more roads and we will have more cars, build yet more cars and we will have yet more roads..its a vicious circle.

One of the biggest problems is unnecessary driving. I know we all have to get to work but the number of young mothers on the road each day doing the school run is astronomic...when I was a lad 25 of us from the village used to walk 3 miles to the local school every day and back in all weathers...each day we had a different parent or two accompany us.

These days ?

40 or more cars outside the local primary twice a day.

Its just as bad in the towns and Cities.

Something must be done. Perhaps big tax incentives not to have a car or fuel rationing.

The man has lost his marbles. Public transport might be viable in a large city but I'd love to see the muppet try and get anywhere in North Yorkshire.

 Ditto for my home town also. Almost as daft as those Police messages when there's bad weather, 'only drive if your journey is absolutely necessary'. If we don't drive around here, we don't get paid.

The man is a muppet.

I always wonder at the number of people gridlocked trying to get from Derby to Nottingham for work and vice-versa.

Surely it makes sense that if the people working in Derby moved there, there would be a large number of houses for the people of Nottingham to move into in Notts.

Why anyone would subject themselves to an hour/hour and a half commute to somewhere 10 miles away when you could move there is beyond me :/
