timmyra608
Hi all I am new to wildfowling and have a Browning Maxus 3 1/2 auto and just wondered if you can get such a thing for them? I only ask because as of yet I haven't been shooting down the marsh but I have been and watched a friend a few times just to get some experience down there and it seems a nightmare trying to find the ejected cartridges in the dark. Starting to think i should of brought an o/u instead. Cheers Tim
figgy
Been loads of trying to get a catcher or deflector right, to my knowledge no ones been fully successful yet. Figgy
Konnie
as long as you try your best to pick them you soon get a idea how far they have gone and in which direction,
bostonmick
a chap I shoot with on occasion has a cart catcher for his semi auto it is a wire arrangement that holds onto the ejected case.it is very effective but only works with the first shot as if you fire a second the case from this knocks the first from the catcher.the only other things I have seen is on a video I believe it was an American that had a net type arrangement that caught the empty cases. silver pigeon 3
I have taught the dog to retrieve them, saves a lot of time and gives him a run after flight time.
GADWALL41
Hi, there is a Catcher model that will fit the Maxus . USA gadget, Cabelas used to have them , a wire clip on stick on job . They are designed for Clay stands , so you don't Clatter your neighbour . Most only catch one shell then the second as no 1 falls to the ground , though I did see one that caught and held 2 shells some time ago. There are vids on youtube of some of these . They wire ones can give trouble , but some newer models are mostly plastic. P.
GADWALL41
FYI , be grateful you don't have an A400 20g , mine is ejecting some empties out to 12 and 14 ft away . If I miss any I try and retrace my steps , during daylight .
GADWALL41
Brownells website has them , the wire ones . Wouldn't fancy the collector box myself .
69chris
i was only thinking about this last sunday as when using 3.5'' carts in my maxus they get chucked out miles !! well ok, perhaps 10 or 12 feet - but it seems further when looking in long grass for them i was thinking about something more simple than trying to catch them, along the lines of perhaps a bit of alloy (or similar) bent into a downward curve over the ejector port to just deflect the carts down towards the ground, maybe using some old scope mounts to fix it in place ?? at least they would all be in one(ish) place to find/pick up
ayano3
My dog finds the majority of mine. My winchester throws them a fair way.
timmyra608
Brownells website has them , the wire ones . Wouldn't fancy the collector box myself . I did see the wire one but I will most probably need the second or third shot so was hoping for a multi catcher. I have seen one but it is for 2 3/4 cartridges only i was only thinking about this last sunday as when using 3.5'' carts in my maxus they get chucked out miles !! well ok, perhaps 10 or 12 feet - but it seems further when looking in long grass for them i was thinking about something more simple than trying to catch them, along the lines of perhaps a bit of alloy (or similar) bent into a downward curve over the ejector port to just deflect the carts down towards the ground, maybe using some old scope mounts to fix it in place ?? at least they would all be in one(ish) place to find/pick up Well if u make something that deflects them to your feet please let me know and i will buy one from you. birdsallpl
I have taught the dog to retrieve them, saves a lot of time and gives him a run after flight time. I'm going to work on that one a bit more. My dog will pick them if I touch the case with my stick and tell him to, which is useful in hedge bottoms etc where I can't reach. Trouble is he's that daft he would probably retrieve the cartridge before the bird LOL
southeastpete
I will make one. It will be the best thing you have ever seen. Catch all the empties and box them up for you. Just buy me a maxus so I have something to work from and I can get started. Edited October 19, 2014 by southeastpete
Terry P
I need something designed to do this, I cannot believe how far my homeload cases fly.
two dugs
You should try having a dog that picks up wads like mine does. Seen a case catcher that has a strong magnet that fits to side of ejection port but can't find if again?
timmyra608
Will start trying to train the dog then

edenman
My dad auto throughs them 3 1/2" a very long way its a pain in the backside trying to find them My SP10 was a nightmare at nights,it could throw shells a considerable distance. Crawling about on hands and knees for those precious shells was no fun at all. Was always best to look for them next day and hope the rust wasn't too bad !! loriusgarrulus
Brownells website has them , the wire ones . Wouldn't fancy the collector box myself . Something like the idea of the collector box, but just a flat strip of metal curving out then down open ended at bottom. Maybe 1cm wide or so placed over the point the case ejects. This would hopefully drop the cases at your feet instead of throwing them yards away into the rough. Then a telescopic magnet ended nail collector for those who have problems bending down to pick them up (available from tool shops) Do you think something like this would work? I can,t try it out myself as all our guns are standard O/U and S/S. Edited October 20, 2014 by loriusgarrulus
