Chris Bb
Hampshire joined in today, according to the local rag. Apparently it's due to a change in the law that prohibits anyone with a criminal record from owning historic guns or some such. Unfortunately I can see de-activated guns getting the elbow next, I have to admit I wouldn't want to be looking down the business end of my .303 if I wasn't 100% sure it wasn't the real (de-activated) thing. And what is the point of blank firers having to be orange or blue, have the powers that be never heard of black paint?

spandit
No don't give them ANY guns. It will legitimize their ill thought out and innefectual gun amnesties. If it's an air gun think of a friend or family member that might like shooting or even someone you know, a neighbour. Toy gun or so throw it in the bin and for a real firearm or shotgun take it to a dealer so maybe they can still use some of the parts. Do not give the police any ammo(pun intended) to claim this initiative is a success. I take your point but it's an old rifle that I've inexpertly shortened the barrel, cut the stock about to turn it into a take down air rifle. It's probably rusted up anyway as I haven't used it for ages but thought throwing in a skip might raise alarm bells. If anyone wants it they are welcome to it but I'm not paying for postage! It's entirely up to you of course, but knackered air gun or not, it will be counted as a 'surrendered firearm' and entered into HO figures as such. Chris Bb
They have and it is illegal to paint over it! And a criminal's going to worry about that? Not aimed at you, Tightchoke, but "powers that be", "GET REAL!"

No problem, I take your point. I was only aware as a Mate of mine bought one at a show and was warned by the seller!
rogcal
And what is the point of blank firers having to be orange or blue, have the powers that be never heard of black paint? Funny you should mention that but a friend who has recently left the Met's Diplomatic Protection Squad told me that some crims have taken to painting their real firearms orange in an attempt to mislead any armed response officers. I suppose they think it may give them an extra few seconds to escape when the police hesitate on seeing what they may believe is a blank firer! Maybe give it to some RFD, he can send it to scrap metal, that would be getting rid of it of course just not boosting the police's figures. Scully
How else can I dispose of it? Hacksaw? Local metal fabricator, scrap merchant or agricultural engineers? Either will bend, crush or cut it beyond all practical use while you watch. They will then recycle the metal.
littlerob
Its a air rifle not a fire arm im not one for flytipping or like that but if you just thrown it out anywhere in a river down a back road or in your dustbin it not illegal to dispose of anywhere

norfolk dumpling
Norfolk had a lovely looking flintlock handed in - that'll help gun crime reductions!! I'll bet it didn't get melted down - probably in a coppers collection??
