simonp
Have to agree. A good sensible program with some very good insights. I am very glad they didn't pull any punches after the previews they ran. Extremely well balanced and the bit on cuts at the end was very usefull Si. ashcmt
to be honest i find it hard to believe some people are so far from reality in that where the bloody hell meat comes from. i think it was a half attempt to introduce the lets show everyone concept, on at half past ten, on a not really mainstream channel. didnt really like the attitude of the bloke presenter, dont think he knew where his meat came from before the program. the vet stood with them telling them what the crack was, was brilliant, aswell as the butcher and all the slaughter lads, just another day for them. attitude of people - quite unbelievable to me. "i didnt think i'd eat meat again after today" what a load of tripe. that fillet the butcher cut, he cud have said cant we hang it for a couple of weeks first lol nothing queerer than folk! henry d
didnt really like the attitude of the bloke presenter, dont think he knew where his meat came from before the program. the vet stood with them telling them what the crack was, was brilliant, aswell as the butcher and all the slaughter lads, just another day for them. Sorry but you`re wrong there, Richard Johnson, the presenter was also a co-presenter on a food programme(can`t remember the name)and did a similar thing and he was in tears and couldn`t eat it, so I think he has taken the hard road to explore this subject. I have to say the skinners/slaughterman were so skilled !
sandersj89
Well, I thought it was a very informative program. Firstly the slaughterhouse seemed to be a very good set up, small throughput, good attention to detail and hygiene and animals treated with respect. Obviously being under the spotlight they may have changed a few things but I hope that was them working as normal. (I just wish I could get a knife as sharp as they can!!) The whole approach seemed very clinical and the skill of the operatives was very obvious. I am also very pleased they showed all of the process from animals on the farm, arriving at the slaughterhouse through to stunning, killing, eviscerating and butchery. Yes blood and guts but that is the reality! I found the ministry vet who talked through the process very good, clear description and explanations. I have never really liked the main presenter however. Yes he did do a piece of meat for Fast Food but I dont like his style much. Finally I was a little amazed at the farmers comments when he said he was not sure it was necessary to show the process…….sorry I disagree. People should understand where food comes from. The audiences reaction seemed to support this. Oh and on the taste test I was also a little surprised they ate the meat immediately, the texture and flavour would have been poor. It would have been nice to do a taste test with well aged beef as well so people can see the reason for hanging at 28 days or more, Tonight in the next program and it is lamb. Looking forward to it. Pedro
I saw the same programme HenryD where the presenter ended up in tears. I thought he presented a fair and well balanced programme this time. It would be interesting to see how they do it in a big slaughterhouse. I remember going to one years ago when I was at Ag college. Just a "little" different to that one All the beef cattle were in a pen at the back and could see their counterparts being stunned and dragged off - not good. The Mrs was saying that in her youth she and her mates used to go out drinking in Taunton and one of the blokes that they used to meet worked in a slaughterhouse. She says he was nuts P. nickfromsomerset
The programme was fine. About time the average person off the street realised that theres more to it than going down to sainsbury's and buying prepacked food. What annoys me most about the 'do-gooders' is that they are fine eating meat as long as they don't know where it comes from. About time these hypocrites got blood on their hands. They may learn something. Its amazing the shock people have when i 'accidentally' tell them that i eat pigeon and squirrels. They always say, 'how could you kill one?'. I always reply, 'almost the same way as McDonalds does or Tesco's. Apart from the fact, the pigeon has a chance of survival and prior to death lives amongst beautiful countryside as oppossed to a concrete cubical that most farm animals are bred in'. 'Oh, but thats different', they say!! Thats when i give up and realise i am trying to educate pork! Anyway, good programme and am looking forward to tonights.
