johnphilip
You could first try an oil or wax finish, it that then not to your liking you could remove that and varnish it. If you varnish it first and dont like it then it would be hard to remove the varnish, Please post pictures.
photon
You can use CA "super glue" you may need to use the thicker stuff as it can be very porus and you can get a nice shiny finish using a latex glove to apply a glossy finish, one wipe then let it dry then repeat. If you try this i suggest you do a test on a scrap piece to get the feel and the finish you want.

demonwolf444
For finishing horn to a really glossy finish true oil does rather well. Its about the only thing it does do well!
Lord Geordie
Seen a few crowns done with a salmon fly in resin, looked rather tasteful. I would be tempted to pop a small clock in the crown myself!

clakk
12 gauge cartridge ends ,just saw,cut the plastic body away and either varnish or car lacquer the outside.those compasses only cost pennies from china.for polish i use beeswax and a buffer pad.if your worried about porus antler soak the antler in brick waterproofer .it firms it up nicely atb
mick miller
I fill small porous marks and cracks with liquid plastic then polish back, final finish is with a few layers of boiled linseed oil.
