islandgun
Iv'e caught the occasional squid and cuttle off a deep water rock mark, both on a spinner and bait intended for other things, I've now bought some glowing lures even one that lights up, with the intention of stocking up with some delicious Cephalopod, does anyone have any catching or cooking tips please

Berettacocker
Cuttle, cracking cod and conger bait. Very tasty too!
Enzo
Used to catch a few when fishing for small bib to use as livebait for the Bass! They would either latch onto the bib and end up in a bucket on deck, or chomp a nice clean 'V' out of the fishes back. Rendering it useless!! Bib = Pout down here to clarify. ;-) No bucket meant a fair time scrubbing the deck with bleach to remove the ink.
ben0850
Squid are the best! Jamie Oliver recipe for squid stuffed with black pudding and a Harissa dressing is without a doubt manna from heaven. Squid scored and chargrilled with chorizo or tempura battered with a nice pokey chilli dressing! Edited December 14, 2014 by ben0850
hambone
I've caught a few squid when using a pirk instead of a weight under a string of hokeyes / feathers for mackerel and bass in late summer / early autumn, not deliberately though. Hope that helps

islandgun
Thanks for the link Powler, I will have a good study, I have seen it done in Hong-Kong/Kowloon, off the piers, I did try it off the rocks the other day, no squid or cuttle but a big Pollack swirled on to the lure on the surface, A few years ago I had a couple of large squid on a dexta wedge in the Autumn on a slow retrieve, Southeastpete the two i did get I clattered them on the head seemed to work

rjimmer
I've never tried it, but have been told by several people that an Ena Sharples type hair net full of bait will catch squid. The suckers get caught in the meshes and they can't let go, as they usually do when pulled up to near the surface of the water.

(I hope this helps) So in my case, would I jut put it on the boat deck and use my 12 gauge? Would #7 and half choke be ok?
