So after many conversations and emails today I had my Social Range day on the land I do my Beginners Days on. The day was for a few friends but a couple could not make, so I'd extended to offer to PW members who kindly filled the spaces. To start with John and I got to the land at 7.30 to start setting up. Benches, deer targets and target boards had to be positioned. It was a good job I'd been ranged and marked where everything was going last week as there was much to do.

By 8.30 we were back at the lodge where a good friend of mine had stopped over to attended the days events. By 9 all were present, ready for a safety brief.....don't shoot my dog or each other. All were introduced and guns came thick and fast from vehicles along with boxes of ammo. Of the 11 shooter 3 were non FAC holders but we managed 34 rifles, awesome.! Everything from .22 LR, AR's and sniper rifles what more could be asked of anyone....go have fun.

There was carnage on the potato range as Joe demonstrated a .270 was not a bad round for veg and by mid day some were taking potatoes at 350 yards which is fairly impressive (Crash and Neil). The roe targets had many holes in and some were interesting groups.....but I won't be taking them as clients stalking due to a mix up between head and tail. Mellons, oranges, coconuts and cans of Fanta all got a pasting from 100 out to 350 yards. But if anyone wants a good target I know 11 guys that will recommend parsnips...they take some destroying.

200-250 roe x6 mag only.

Exploding targets appeared towards the end of the day and the floor was littered with brass. Not all reloadable but the metal detectors will have fun later in the year. By 2pm it was time to pack up for dinner, but me being a Numpty I left the fan and ignition on in my truck, very flat battery. Fun was had towing me around the field to bump start the old girl.

A relaxed atmospher

At 3 all but one of us were sitting around the table eating bison pie, roast potatoes and veg , then cheese cake and coffee. Nice thing is we all got along like a house on fire, plenty of banter and ribbing throughout the day and no a cross word along with guns and ammo.

All agreed to do it again next month so I'm on the case right now.

Many thanks Andrew.
