aMooseLoose
Evening all, I'm about to send my application away but have stumbled across a problem, I can't pay by cheque... I don't have a chequebook! I've asked my local bank, Lloyds, whether they can make one for me, a bankers draft will cost me £20! I'm currently up in Lancashire, the issuing authority will be Merseyside. Can i send a postal order or do a bank transfer? They need to get with the times and get a PayPal account

TIGHTCHOKE
Could this be yet another hoop for applicants to jump through? A sort of "intelligence" test!
aMooseLoose
Could this be yet another hoop for applicants to jump through? A sort of "intelligence" test! But do you not think the Police service should modernise their payments methods? If after all, the public can, why can't they? Surely there's more admin/paperwork to do when cashing in a cheque vs a simple bank transfer? It's not intelligence, it's a serious matter. My dad only has a chequebook for his business banking now. My friends are the same, no chequebook with their accounts. In this modern age of technology, we (UK) really are behind when it comes to public services. CharlieT
Have you phoned them and asked, they may take payment by card over the phone.
Gordon R
The Police might well say - why should we? Very few members of the public pay money to the Police and any computerisation of payments will cost money to set up. As for Public Services - many countries would swap ours for their own, despite shortcomings in some areas.
aMooseLoose
Have you phoned them and asked, they may take payment by card over the phone. I tried yesterday, the response was office hours, so will try tomorrow. I wanted to get it sent out first thing in the morning so it's on its way and closer to getting sent back to me. Carman06
A lot of business don't except cheques anymore due to charges to cash them. Surely the police should be looking for a method without charges for them to cash and maybe pull some of that extra cash back they are looking for. KFC
My FLO is happy for me to pay cash directly to my FEO when she arrives for my renewal so give them a ring and I'm sure they'll say you can do the same.
BangBangNik
Why not just order a FREE cheque book from your bank. It will arrive within the working week and you won't have any more problems like this. I only use mine for my SGC so the one book will last a lifetime.
