Sorry about that , pressed the wrong button

What I was going to say was how have your Spring gone for pigeons.

Now P C have gone on his holiday reports of any size bags have nearly came to a standstill , the peas I shoot have got ( or did have ) a few pigeons on where you can pass the time on and get a few , one rape field I go on had a part re drilled where you can get a bit of sport if you leave it for a week or two and apart from those fields that's been more or less it . Overall its been more or less the same as the last few years ....No big bags but enough to give you a bit of sport , but you have to put the time and effort in.

So have you done any better in your part of the world ?

Had I been in the Cotswolds still I believe I would have been having a bit of sport on peas and spring rape.

In this part of Lincolnshire at least the pigeons have been in the tree tops for six weeks at least. Mightymariner and I found some on winter rape two weeks ago and he shot thirty odd on peas. I have been watching a fair few in the last few days feeding on peas which are in flower. We are hoping to get out on Friday following which one or other of us will report back to the PW massive.

It has to be one of if not the worst spring / early summer seasons I have known for myself .

I am yet even to set up on any of my pea fields as there is just nothing worth having a go for .

There are some getting on one of my mustard fields but they just come from nearby orchards and all flight out in one flock , giving no possibility of a decent shoot .

My best bag so far this spring on my own is just a measly 13 birds ! .

The peas are now well in flower which is usually my favourite time but they are devoid of birds.

Some early action on cereal drillings, but no big numbers and the birds had lots of options available and were not slow to move on.

The bean and pea drillings have been poor and although they are now chitting , the birds don't seem interested.

Those I have shot have been full of clover, hawthorn shoots and weed seeds.

Not very good in this part of East yorkshire either, although it has been a strange one in terms of cropping, some peas are still being drilled and our spring cereals were sown in parts of the farm that does'nt have much pigeon traffic.

They are just a few of my excuses :) my best bags in spring was 45 on drillings and 41 on rape. I have had other bags of 15/20 off the rape but generally dissapointing, and i have'nt fired the shotgun for a few weeks now :unhappy: .

Other parts of East yorks have had good numbers though as shown on the shooting show the other week where they shot 100+ each weekend for a few weeks on drilled beans.

I am looking forward to the end of june when the milky barley will hopefully produce. In the meantime the silage cutting started today so hopefully the shotgun will be back out on the crovids :good:

jan feb march were the worst months I have known

normally we get regular bags through them months but it was bleak to say the least, and come spring drillings it looked bleak until one farm put barley in on 3 fields and the birds just appeared from nowhere as they do and we got 2 big bags 151 and 123 picked so the shooting came in one big lump rather than steady bags but only for them bags it would of been the worst first 4 months of the year and the worst spring we ever had

At the moment I haven't seen any peas nowhere near in flower , in fact I went Monday afternoon on peas down the marsh and you could have got away without using cradles as they were only 3 or 4ins high with a lot of bare ground in between , this land hadn't been shot since they were drilled and it is only in the last week that any interest from pigeons have been shown . If rain hadn't stopped play I would had ended up with 20+ as it was I got 9 and then the heavy rain set in .

With the ears of the winter barley now forming on the stems it wont be long before any heavy rain showers start knocking areas down and if like last year once the pigeons find these patches the peas near by tend to be left alone.

Still one way or the other we haven't got long to wait to see if we have got any amount to pit our wits against .

Same, but without the big bags at the end. :(
