Harnser
now is the time to be watching your rape and cereal fields . I will be keeping watch on all my fields to see where the pigeons are getting in . I have two fields of rape that are being visited daily mainly in the afternoon . I have sat in the hedge rows and shot a few but picking them up is very difficult with the rape standing 5 feet high and now drooping and falling in on its self with the weight of the crop. It's now impossible to walk down the tram lines . I will shoot these fields the day after they have been harvested . From past experience I have found that the birds will hit these fields as soon as they are cut . I have seen pigeons dropping down behind the combine as it is cutting . The same applies for your barley and wheat fields . A good recce now until harvest will pay dividends .my farmer will be spraying off the rape within the next week or so . I love this time of the year . Nige and Ian make sure you have plenty of shells I have a feeling that we shall have some good days out ,and Nige make sure you allow your self some time off . I am looking forward to having a mardle in the hide . Harnser

marsh man
Pea vining started around here last week , but as far as the harvest , I would think at least between the second and third week of July before they make a start on winter Barley . yod dropper
I've the odd slab or two sat waiting. I had a look today, one area looks as if it it might have been sprayed, a reasonable number of birds about, the other area is still quite green and better numbers of birds there. I'm away again in a bit for a few days doing good deeds for those in need of some support but should be back before it starts.
rich1985
Start on winter corn planned for bout the 17th July, can't wait got several birds hanging around and all the peas in the area are now being vined as I write so they will be long gone by the time the combine starts hammering the crops. alastair0903
Rape will be more like 2 weeks after spraying , depending how patient your farmer is . Hopefully I will get a break from the combine to shoot some pigeons

rich1985
Started (and finished) cutting winter barley here Yesterday. Van packed any ready to go Sunday! Rather early, you should with luck get a good day as not much of anything cut yet I can't imagine. Cut the rye this way over the last week, it's all going for bio mass. kennett
It is, he hadnt planned to cut but had moved combine over, did a hand sample, which was good, then ran the headland to test combine, came back with good moisture so did the whole lot. To be honest it had died rather than ripened, and yields are way down, last year it filled a whole Bay, plus a bit more, this year it's barely half full!
