ditchman
i need to get the block into a position that i can fit the pistons....so what i needed to do was remove the studs from the flywheel housing and temporily bolt the housing onto the block and stand the block upright.......but first i need to remove the studs
ditchman
for those of you who dont know how to remove studs...this is the way...
ditchman
this is where the flywheel housing will bolt to.....................and when you put new pistons on the rods make sure they are the right way round make sure the rods are the right way round make sure the gudgeon circlips are properly seated
ditchman
1st pic is the side of the piston where the circlip is,,,,,,,,,,

JDog
I would love to be present when the engine is first fired up but time restraints make that unlikely. Can you get someone to video the turning of the ignition key and the engine response?

rodp
You probably wouldn't want to be near the exhaust tail pipe when it fires up for the first time Not without all the doors and windows open anyway

ditchman
there is some seriously clean metal here, this engine is not a lot different from your engine...............have you sent yours away yet ?
ditchman
first pic is what you need to avoid at all cost.........the gaps in the rings must not line up...stagger them around the piston.........there are rings that are designed to turn as the engine is running CAT being one of them.....2nd pic is of the spring steel piston ring compressor......
ditchman
the piston with the staggered rings and plenty of oil is then loaded into the compressor...............2nd pic' is of the new shells going in......
ditchman
first pic' is from the crankcase looking at the oil squirter aimed at the underside of the piston ....the 2nd is plenty of oil onto the piston before loading it into the compressor....
ditchman
fist pic' is the "tool" you use to unload the piston into the bore....i use a lump hammer ! but i cover it with very think material so when i gently tap the piston into the bore i dont damage the black high temp' coating ontop of the piston... ..2nd pic is attatching the big end caps to the rods and onto the crank which i will later tourque up ....... 3rd one...all pistons in and turning the engine over with a big spanner....as there is resistance now and you can hear a "hissing" as the new rings are bedding into the honed bores.........
