La Bala needs his fix....so as i had done the next part of the hedge cleaned the grate and lit the fire and all the other host of jobs i have to do...and shopping...returning an 1" drive and 41mm socket..........thought i would do a bit of cleaning.......when i got the head...i mentioned that i thought the front seal for the crank was spinning as i was seeing a couple of drips a week....he said it was not unusal that a poor fitting seal would spin , and felt sorry for me and gave me a good secondhand timing case which i cleaned up and checked the seal seating and flattened off the botton as it had a couple of bad scrapes on it.....that part of it , is where the front of the sump sits................

Then turned to the injector pipes.....as you can see they were a "little" mucky...........muck an fuel dont mix ! and if you have as much as a bit of grit or a scratch on the male-female joints at 1500psi...it will leak....when i fit them i will polish the male parts with the buffer using aluminum wax to take out any inpefections...the i will fit them and never touch them again.....also did the dipstick tube...................

next i will take the starting motor apart and check brushes and give a blow out...then seal and spray paint.............

When i was chief consultant engineer at N.A.S.A..............our launch window was fast approaching...and they wanted to stand down cause they had found a small crack in one of the windows............."dont be silly i said...we will achieve the launch window"...so up the launch tower i climbed...and put some "gaffer" tape and a black plastic bin liner on the window...like they have in liverpool for a permnant replacement.............jobs a gooden ,...and off they went..........saved a shed load of money as well................

Not exactly correct buddy, the first diesels and paraffin engines worked on the same principle (way before 1934) but they relied on the hot spot for complete ignition, without it they wouldn't work at all, whereas in a modern engine (relatively) it's an aid to combustion.

But I can see why you're simplifying it on here :good:

i was talking about "the pre-combustion chamber".....which made the deseil engine a viable proposition for the car in 1934 in a citroen............as you say the deseil engine goes back to 18 something.........

No, the pre-combustion chamber goes way back, first diesels / paraffin engines had it along with a hot spot :good: A lot of early stationary engines used indirect and hot spot as well right up to present times. The indirect engine we know today is just a development of the early ones, a sort of gas flowed combustion chamber. Your TD is just a later generation of an 1800's engine.

But I believe you're referring to the first "mass production" in a car as the early diesels were hardly mass produced.

As an aside, I'm not picking flies here but there's a lot of folk watching this, with good reason, and I was just trying to clarify it a little. You're doing a great job both with the engine and the write up and a lot will take this as gospel, hence just making sure folk get the history right :good:

Keep it up :good:

sorry picture heavy.........i cant explain the Boost diaphram without explaining the Turbo charger..................the first 2 pics show the view from the side of the injector pump and the top view....the boost diaphram is located in the round housing with the 2 banjo bolts sticking out.....looking at the first pic' you can see where it say AIR....and ARROW........air in.....excess fuel out...and inbetween the diaphram........
