Munzy
River Test has some fantastic trout fishing, Spitfire clay ground in Stockbridge is good, New Forest has a few breweries and nice country pubs, head out to the Flowerpots in Cheriton for the best IPA every brewed, Isle of White is across the water and worth exploring and Winchester is just up the road and has some nice shops and restaurants. I realise I've not mentioned a single thing to do actually in Southampton but that's because unless the Titanic museum interests you there is nowt! Chris Bb
Day trip to Portsmouth? You're marginally less likely to be robbed/mugged/killed in Southampton. Both are full of students.

B25Modelman
Best shop John Lewis - Xmas Shopping. Winchester is 10 miles have an evening there. Walk the back streets through the cathedral grounds, to the college then up to the old barracks at the top of town, the long hall and court houses. As for pubs, Black Boy, Albion, Hyde Tavern and Wykeham Arms.
