Game shooting

I know this is mainly pigeon talk but I figured lots do game shooting as well. I would like to know the cheapest way of getting into game shooting (if there is a cheap way) as its a bloody expensive sport but I love it! I usually treat myself to one day a year but unfortunately this years day wasn't all that great. I would love to shoot more days but can't afford it so as I said is there cheap way to do it. I have family and friends who shoot and drooped a million and one hints but no luck as yet.

Walk one stand one DIY shoot is the way to go. The work through the year to produce the birds is actually part of the reward.

+1

I have used guns on pegs for a few days shooting this season. My advice would be, read the reviews left by others and ask lots of questions (write a list of questions and the answers given) before committing.

There are also days advertised on hear that are great value, if you don't mind travelling for some of them.

The annual PW charity shoot also is a great place to meet fellow PWers. I have made some great friends from these events. There are usually a few driven days put up as raffle prizes aswell. I have also received invites to shoot from the friendships made at these charity shoots.

Beating on a shoot will also help you make contacts for the chance of invites of the keepers, although no guarantees. A lot depends if they like you or not.

Good luck in finding somthing.

Problem is that you wont get taken on by a good syndicate unless someone knows you, your personality, your safety and attitude. Most shoots do want want some one who wants to kill everything and are very conscious of the desire that you need 'fit' with the other guns.

So you need to get to know a wide range of people already involved, then if a vacancy is likely to occur you might get to hear of it before hand. Best way to do this is either beating or if you have a half decent dog picking up. Start with you local shoots and work outwards.

The other way is to join a roving syndicate, however you wont normally be taken on as a full member unless introduced and have had a few days shooting with them. That will be more expensive but you will have no additional duties in the summer as you would with a syndicate.
