Caplocks and woodcocks.

Well, woodcock actually, I missed the second bird!

I don't take many now but do like a couple a season but only with frontloaders nowadays.

I walked a place that holds plenty and boy did I miss old Tia today, she never missed a squat wood cock! Jess walked past one within inches today and it stayed put!

I love these ancient birds, the ones that arose where always behind stuff, that is except for this chap!

The hammers were already back when he lifted and a quick snap shot as he turned to go around an obstacle left me with nothing but feathers drifting away with the smoke!

Once again I missed Tia as I fumbled making the retrieve.

Tia my darling I missed you today and every time I think of you my heart sinks.

Here is one of Tia and me after a long retrieve and my first woodcock with a flintlock.

To Tia :drinks:

Get one quick before she changes her mind !

simple storm into house with a wet sack in one hand and damp pup inside your coat and say to your good lady hold this while I call the rspca to take it away found it in the river 😚😋

This plan works best after 5 on a Friday when your local branch is shut 😊😉

Seriously UD get one

All the best

An enjoyable read and great photographs as always, well done on the woodcock.

I agree with Fenboy a new pup, soon, not as a replacement but to pass on all you and Tia learned together, you could offer a fantastic home to your new spaniel doing exactly what they are bread for, good luck.
