Any thing that can't be missed? Only 17 miles away and you can watch the brown trout in the river. http://www.kingsleyvillage.com/ 20 miles, good butcher here, very good butcher (grab the burgers and saussies from here before you go to Cardinham)! Stayed in the pub right at the front by the beach and slip way ,Locals seem friendly enough,had a nice meal in the fish restaurant next door ,met Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen,apparently he has a pad down there,very famous little village been used for lots of movie backdrops and of course the series doc Martin. If you ever seen the movie from the 80's Supergrass theres a scene where Robbie Coltrane walks along the harbour wall in full storm tide with waves crashing all around great scene.Oh one more thing make sure your fuel tank is not near empty when you go into the village i took my 306 cabriolet i had at the time down there and because the roads are so steep the fuel wouldnt suck through the pick up pipe in the tank and it couldn't make it up the hill (true story) had to get a local to tow me up the steep hill. sportsbob Posted January 3, 2016 Report Share Posted January 3, 2016 Port Isaac, one way in one way out and it smells of fish, Boscastle much better more relaxed, St ives tight roads and nowhere to park, Perranporth reasonable parking and great beach good bars, Newquay park in the Harbour car park if possible and quite a good town to browse. I am in Cornwall quite often and have been to most places of interest, the Eden project is worth a visit but might be a bit long winded for a child. secretagentmole Posted January 4, 2016 Report Share Posted January 4, 2016 Newquay is not worth a visit, it sold it's soul to the stag and hen parties and consequently most mornings smells like the urinals at a nightclub, has pavements befouled by pavement pizzas, and in the afternoons they started getting drunk againt not a place to visit with a young family. St Ives got too commercialized for my tastes. Port Isaac is still mainly a working fishing harbour, just a few sideshows to lure people in. Heck if you are going to recommend Newquay you might as well go Arthurian and recommend Tintagel, or go all Bunnyman and visit Carnglaze Caverns near Liskeard, Liskeard, Liskeard, funny there must be an Echo in here..... clakk Posted January 4, 2016 Report Share Posted January 4, 2016 Port Isaac is a nice little village to visit and dine in but not been touristed with arcades n carp so its still got real character .Mynack Theatre is awesome but you need a head for heights as it clings to the cliffside,with amazing views and is truly open to the elements.Dont go to Lands End its pure rip off,someone even has the gall to try and charge you to take a picture with the famous sign.Everything is priced at a premium in there.As Mole said Healey,s cider farm is a great day out for all the family,farm animals ,tours and tasting soo dont be nominated driver on that trip atb Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Last family holiday to the lakes was a disaster as daughter wasn't even 1 and that week she was full of a cold and had 4 teeth coming through. Ended up throwing the towel in and going home early. brett1985 Posted January 4, 2016 Report Share Posted January 4, 2016 Good old newquay, gets a bit of a bad rep but there are some nice bits... the old harbour is a pretty place, and fistral beach is worth a visit. Eden project is worth visiting, as is the watering hole on Perranporth beach.if you have the kiddies with you then pay a visit to dairyland. Tad expensive but good fun. The treasure park has no entrance fee though, a James Bonds DB5, a Doc Brown Delorean, as well as the infamous pearl lucky dip (we got a pearl that was blue and green, very unusual), they have gold and silversmiths that can make you a bespoke piece of jewellery with your choice as well as the bog standard ones in the shop. Add to that the teddybear makers. the gold panning, the lucky diamond dip (see if you can find the half carat diamond amongst the cubic zirconia crystals (one kid managed it), they have some attractively landscaped grounds, oh and are about 3 miles away from the best cornish pasties I have ever tasted which are available from the West End Bakery in Redruth! Best pasties I have ever had. When we left after our last trip we bought back 36 and froze the 30 that made it back to Norfolk! 3 pasties never made it past Bodmin and another 3 disappeared shortly after we got on the A14! Having sampled quite a few pasties, the best we found were Malcolm Barnecutts - they have a few branches.
