I've had good and bad experiences with them.

I've recently moved to Northants and discovered that all the notications I'd sent to TVP regarding sales and purchases also requesting the details of the guns be to mirrored on my wife's SGC/EFP had been ignored in the last couple of years. We share a cabinet and it's sensible to have them on both.

They've reduced the number of FEOs by 50% recently and I think they're stretched to breaking point, never had a problem with the several FEOs I'd had in 20 years.

Sadly I'd have to give them a poor marking.

When I first got my FAC and SGC a couple of years ago the turn around was great got my FAC and SGC sorted on initial grant within a month and variations were two weeks.

Trouble is as has been said above they have cut staff and it has shown. Someone I know from the local RFDs put in for his FAC and it was 8 months for the grant, although last year was a peak renewals year. But to be honest I get the feeling they have fallen so far behind now that with the staff cuts they will never catch up.

I put my variation in yesterday and am not holding out any hope that it will be faster than a couple of months minimum.

I think it's also been made harder for them after they were forced into temp accommodation after a leaking air con unit wrecked their permanent offices.

They sent me letters 20 weeks before renewal to get my forms and payment in. I think it's been 12 weeks so far and heard nothing and both tickets run out in march :(

It's dire and not going to get better any time soon.

Workload is massive, no recognition, solutions from senior management none existent. It's not the FEOs or support staff its all about budgets. Tried talking with MP Dr Lee nothing, no acknowledgement, PCC 'will look into it " when?

Funny how they cash the cheques ASAP they must be earning a few pounds a week in interest, yet takes 28 weeks plus to get your certificate

Rating 3/10 must try a lot harder.

I received this the other day when doing some work, Essex Firearms.

Thank you for your enquiry.

If you are notifying us of the acquisition or disposal of a weapon please take this reply as confirmation it will be dealt with.

Unfortunately due to recent changes in working practice and extremely high volume of work within Firearms Licensing at this present time the Service Delivery Targets previously set are not able to be met and this office is unable to respond to any email queries of timescales for the completion or progression of applications/renewals etc.

If your application is within the timeframe shown below, please do not telephone our office. A high volume of enquiries prevents us from processing work efficiently.

Grant of a firearm or a shot gun certificate
40 weeks
Renewal of a firearm or shot gun certificate (including variation to acquire additional firearms)
16 weeks (from the date of the expiry of the previous certificate). Please note: a temporary permit will be issued which will last for 6 months from the expiry of the old certificate. This will cover the certificate holder during the renewal process.
Change of address
8 weeks
'one for one' variation on an identical or similar calibre
4-5 weeks
'one for one' variation on none identical or similar calibres and amendment of certificates for additional 'good reason' or use
10-12 weeks
Grant or renew a European Firearms Pass (Note: This can only be issued to the expiry dates of a valid FAC or SGC)
1 week
Issue a temporary permit (Section 7), providing any delay is due to Police
1 week

We ask for your continued patience whilst we process the current workload. Please trust that we are working hard to achieve this, and apologise for inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards,
