You have 7 days to notify the police that it has been sold/transferred to the shop ,quoting their RFD number.

I was under the impression that's not the case with a RFD, They can hold without notifying? For repair for example.

I sold a couple of guns on commission through an RFD a couple of years ago. I got a receipt for the guns when I left them with him and didn't inform the police when they sold as I assumed the RFD would have done.

Time will tell if I was correct but I would imagine I would have heard by now if there was a problem.

You might just want to check. They may still be on your ticket if you've never informed the police about the sale.

Remember. YOU are responsible for notifying the police of changes to your certificate.

I'll ring them on Tuesday but would hope RFD/ notification on another licence would do the job.

Edited to say that when the guns were sold the RFD didn't give me any details of the purchasers, therefore impossible for me to inform my FEO.

I could be wrong, but I was lead to believe if (in the case of sec1) they wanted to know 'where ' the guns were.

If they were at an RFD waiting to be sold, they are not with you,so need transferring.

Sec 2 slightly different with the 72 hr rule, but same again ,they are not in your cabinet,so they need to know where they are residing.

If you got spot checked (I know its rare ) how would you explain a missing gun ?

Tell them it's with an RFD?

I sold a gun through my rfd,he in effect gave me a receipt as if he had taken ownership,i informed the police of the change this meant that when he sold the gun he was legally allowed to enter it onto the new keepers certificate as I would not have been able to if it had stayed on my license.
