JDog
Aga man was my chosen victim today and he made the journey over the Humber bridge with no other traffic on the road. The field was recently drilled with beans and although there were not many on top I felt sure that there would be a line in. Indeed there was a line but not into our considerable decoy pattern. Instead the pigeons drifted by in huge numbers at least 100m high and headed into the distance. We just could not fathom where they were going. The pigeons themselves had no idea where they were going either because at no stage did they descend to feed but they just flew around for the fun of it for several hours. We packed up and observed their behaviour from another position and there was more of the same, aimless flying around on strong lines, right angled turns, return lines then out again, always at between 60m and 120m high. Whilst this was truly wonderful to see it was obvious that we would not make a bag so called it a day. In all of my years of observing the behaviour of pigeons I have never seen anything like it. fenboy
I would imagine they were flying around in the sunshine looking for Pigeon Controller's decoys . No doubt will be reading of his 200+ bag shortly.
oowee
I dont know where they are heading but they left here like that on Wednesday . As Fenboy says must be looking for PC.
aga man
Indeed it was a very frustrating day regarding the pigeon decoying. I am sure many pigeons shooters here will have had those days were the pigeons sail on past at high altitude just slowing up to have a look at the pattern. Despite the lack of decoying pigeons, what a glorious day to be out int the wonderful Lincolnshire wolds. They say life is for living and what a way to live it, simply marvelous to see hundreds of woodpigeons enjoying the warm spring sunshine. I am sure PC has scored well again, he is a legend but i bet he and DB has had many days like JDog and i had today, all part of the sport. By the way JDog did manage to drop a couple of the 'tall' birds in spectacular style [like he does]!
motty
The pigeons were generally flying out of range where I was today. A few paid the price for getting too close.

JDog
I have returned to the same place where Aga man and I were yesterday. There are several flocks from ten to one hundred birds doing the same as they did yesterday. They are certainly not feeding. Either I go and try to flight a few or I go home to bed.
