Pigeon Shooting Explained

Recommended Posts

Well done SRS, liked the vid. Producing a 30 minute educational video like that would have taken you hours of preperation. I'd disregard the fossils negative criticism whether you be a novice or experienced I dont know but i will say that your vid was as good as any demo i've seen at gamefairs by pro/experienced shooters. Well done!

SRS - Fair play for putting yourself out there. Good effort.

One of those "Fossils" taught me more in an afternoon decoying than I've learn't through a couple of years reading books and getting out on my own.

Such a lot when it comes to pigeon shooting is a matter of opinion, an enjoyable enough watch but very basic in terms of knowledge/what's required to shoot good bags of pigeons.

Studying flightlines and when to shoot fields etc weren't really mentioned but it's not a very easy subject to try and teach in half an hour and not really possible.

I'd split educational videos up into sections and give a little more detail, part 1/2/3 etc.

I'd struggle with the filming side of things though!

I agree with nearly everything wilts dave has said constructive criticism, and so is my post there is so much more to learn and that's were the experience side others have mentioned comes into play

I thought it was a good effort for a video that was aimed at helping novice decoyers.

Ignore the negative criticism it only comes from the same conceited people.

I expected as much from you.

Who are fossils, exactly?

A well edited video, but I'm with Motty, there are many inaccuracies, legal inaccuracies, agricultural inaccuracies, general shooting inaccuracies.

I particularly didn't like the bit of advice of 'not listening to your farmer'.

As we have openly been asked to critique this media, why are people resorting to insults?

One reason I hate forums, and why I never post pics or videos of my shooting. I don't need the critique.

Sorry to put some 'spin' on your post, but would this not be THE most important skill to shoot pigeon, we only need to look back at PC's post and his travels to shoot.

I have a few bits to ask ,i never understand why you would set up under a big oak tree and cut off large shooting area when there is a hedge etc to set up against .When does rape look like grass . Nothing wrong with 5s especially if your flighting them .Please don't ask for an opinion if your not prepared for ones you don't like ,if we only pat each other on the back like our American friends we will never move forward .

Ok. It appears some forum members don't much like opinions that may seem to critisize. I have watched this video again, just to see if my original comments were harsh. I conclude they were not. I made a few notes....

In the video it mentioned the need for hide poles and nets. They are not 'needed'. No mention was made of natural hides or permanent hides.

It was said that over 32 gm loads or bigger than 6 shot should not be used for pigeons.

Anyone use string to carry pigeons? Me neither.

Hides do not need to be concealed and foliage need not be added. String is not an important bit of kit.

I would have said that big bags may be expected from a field of drilling on a good day, not 10-20.

I still require anyone to let me know when osr starts to look like grass. Any suggestions?

Decoy patterns do need to be horseshoe shaped or be 25 yards from the hide.

SRS cut holes in his net. Why?

It was stated that you must ensure that shot does not cross a public footpath. This is a falsehood.

To add balance, I think the production of the video is very good and way better than anything i could muster. Also, some valid points and tips were shared.

The title of the video could do with being changed.

Srs, if you're still pigeon shooting in 10 years time after several hundred days in the field, make another video along the same lines. You'll then perhaps see what this video should have been.

I think all your points are fair to be honest, all of us learn from more experienced people and I would hope if I was doing something wrong, someone would point me in the right direction, thats how we learn :good:

Srs dont take any points raised personally,im sure no one means it that way :good: BB
