steve_b_wales
My FAC allows me to acquire a .22 calibre rifle. It doesn't state 'LR or 'CF'. Does this mean that I can purchase either one?
r1steele
Does it not say either rimfire or centrefire? What did you actually apply for? Edited May 11, 2016 by r1steele
steve_b_wales
Does it not say either rimfire or centrefire? What did you actually apply for? I applied for a .204 Ruger, which I was given, but have had a .22 Rifle added without me asking. I'm not going to buy anything ( ) but curious to know the answer. I phoned BASC earlier today but there was 'no one' to take my call, and they are supposed to ring me back.
Loki
Hi Steve I would suggest that any .22 is permitted - get one in the cabinet to fit in between existing calibres! F
r1steele
Sorry, thats a new one for me. You ask for a .204 slot and get a .22 (not even R/F or C/F specific) slot without asking. I don't know but I may be contacting the FEO as being an honest person is a huge part of FAC ownership. It's your call really.

It is obviously a mistake and as an honest chap you should return your newly recieved FAC for correction. Out of interest, does it show an ammo allowance and if so, what ? Scully
As much as it grieves me to say it, I would have to agree with the fact it is a simple mistake. Edited May 11, 2016 by Scully
steve_b_wales
As most of you have mentioned, it's a mistake, and I do intend to send my FAC back, but not before I pick up my rifle and ammunition. I'll phone the firearms department tomorrow.

Got a ot for something you didn't ask for??? And come next renewal if you haven't filled it they will be giving you a lecture!!!.The whole licencing authority needs a good shake up.This method of licencing can not continue in the hands the numpties.Shocking is an understatement!! Whitebridges
Good man Steve. I'd better get out and shoot some .204 !

I'll phone the firearms department tomorrow. Maybe ask them if they can leave the slot on but maybe specify .22CF and leave it there for a variation later one saving the 25 or 30 quid
steve_b_wales
I had a telephone conversation with BASC earlier, and their advice was to leave it on my licence. I could do that, and pick up another .22LR, but could not buy a CF as there is no provision for ammunition to be purchased. I will pick up what I need, and, providing the police promise to return my certificate within a week or receiving it, I'll send it back straight away. To be fair to them, they have always provided an excellent service, and have always been helpful in any questions I may wish to ask. The mistake clearly lays at their feet, as I have a copy of my variation form I sent them. I'll see what they say when I phone them. If they offer me to keep it, but only a rimfire, I'll take them up on it.
steve_b_wales
UPDATE: After speaking to the firearms department at South Wales Police, they informed me that there hasn't been a mistake, and that the .22 calibre rifle was on my licence that I sent back for the variation. I pointed out that if it had been on there, I would have asked for a one -for-one variation to acquire the .204, and not paid the £20 to have it added on. They could not answer that, and I didn't ask them if I was allowed a .22 calibre RF or CF. I can only presume it's for a RF because there is no other calibre ammunition on there, other than what I already have and use. So, I can buy another .22 LR. Now, can I fit one in one of my 4 cabinets?

steve_b_wales
or a free variation True. I'm sure there's some 'exotic' calibre I would like to own!
Vince Green
Either buy a £10 rimmie as a fun gun and keep it to trade the slot later or without asking any questions send it back and convert it to a 223 or whatever.
